Sacramento Cement Truck Accident Kills Driver

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento trucking accident lawyer. Everyone who has been behind the wheel of a motor vehicle understands that accidents can happen; however, when accidents involve heavy equipment, such as a commercial  truck, accidents can become even worse. Every accident, from a single car accident to a multi-car pileup, can leave people injured or worse; however, disaster struck near Arena Boulevard in Sacramento when a cement mixer collided with a highway median. Unfortunately, the cement truck accident left one person dead.

Accidents Involving Commercial Trucks

Accidents Involving Commercial Trucks

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento trucking accident lawyer. Trucks are an important part of our nation’s economy — but when barreling down our roads and highways, they can often become deadly. We can thank manufacturers that put profit before safety and lax federal regulations for much of the danger. Personal trucks such as pickups aren’t held to the same standards of safety as passenger cars, even though they are often used for similar purposes. Large commercial trucks like eighteen-wheelers, tractor-trailers and big rigs weigh nearly 20 times as much as the standard passenger vehicle. It’s no wonder that they’ll crush smaller vehicles when involved in an auto accident. Worse, some trucking companies and truckers, in an effort to meet demanding delivery deadlines and to maximize their profits, ignore safety regulations.

Sacramento Truck and Train Collide

I’m Ed Smith, a South Sacramento Injury Lawyer. A big rig driver stopped along the railroad tracks on Fruitridge Road instead of waiting for traffic ahead of him to move up allowing him enough room to clear the tracks. Thankfully, this time, the collision did not result in catastrophic injuries.

Big Rig Driver Forgiven
Big Rig Driver Forgiven

A family from Santa Cruz who tragically lost their son in a big rig crash last year has decided to forgive the at fault driver.  On Friday, December 11, 2015 family members of the man killed asked a judge not to sentence the truck driver to a jail term.  The family of Daniel McGuire love and miss him very much. Daniel died in July of 2014, in a tragic big rig accident, while driving on Highway 17 in Santa Cruz. The big rig driver involved in the crash that ended Daniel’s life said that his brakes had failed as he was driving down a hill. The big rig hit other cars and trucks during the accident. The big rig eventually jack-knifed and crashed through a guard rail.

Yesterday we told you about the Southbound Highway 5 Closure at Seamus Road in Sacramento. The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) was out there conducting skid testing after a series of big accidents which we also told you about.  A tragic fatality accident occurred along this stretch of highway.

What did the skid testing reveal?

Electronic Logging DevicesElectronic Logging Devices

Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) will become a requirement by December 2017. Truck drivers who have ELDs in the cabs of their trucks will no longer be required to maintain and keep a paper log. This according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA). The FMSCA claims this new rule will save the industry around $1 billion a year. A savings of money and time spent on paperwork.

Big Rig Crash Sacramento
Sacramento Truck Accident at Sutterville Road – Highway 5

On Monday, December 21, 2015, during the early morning hours, a big rig crashed while on northbound Highway 5. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash was just south of Sutterville Road in Sacramento. The truck was heading southbound when its driver lost control and crashed through the concrete center divide. This sounds very much like a recent Federal Express Trucking accident along this same stretch of highway…

Flatbed truck crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento Trucking Accident Attorney. Flatbed trucks are large vehicles used mainly for commercial reasons. Flatbed trucks have a minimum gross weight of about 10,000 pounds. This is less the weight of any cargo or passengers.

Flatbed trucks are different from a tractor-trailer truck. A flatbed is mounted directly onto the chassis of a truck. It cannot be removed. Flatbed trucks are different from  a tanker truck, in that, the flatbed truck has an open flatbed. This as opposed to a covered or closed tanker. The flatbed is where cargo and commercial goods get stacked. After being loaded it gets transported.
