Elk Grove Man Dies in Pinole Crash

On Friday, January 8, 2021, an Elk Grove man sadly lost his life after being involved in a car accident in Contra Costa County. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the incident happened on a major highway and involved two vehicles. Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department officials identified the man as LaShun Curtis, a 46-year-old resident of Elk Grove. The incident remains under official investigation at this time.

I-80 Collision Causes Death of Motorcyclist

A motorcycle accident near Elk Grove resulted in a fatality on November 24 in a lane splitting accident. The collision occurred around 2:20 in the afternoon along Interstate 80 westbound just east of Watt Avenue. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident report stated that the rider, an Elk Grove man, age 40, and riding a Kawasaki Ninja, hit the back of a Hyundai sedan, which caused him to be ejected from his motorcycle. 

Accident on Whitelock Parkway Results in Death of Bicyclist

A bicycle rider fatality occurred on October 17 in Elk Grove when a 14-year-old was involved in a collision with a motor vehicle. According to a report by the Elk Grove Police Department, the accident occurred about 3:19 in the afternoon along Whitelock Parkway near Bruceville Road. Police officers arrived at the accident scene where they discovered the injured teen and attempted medical assistance while they awaited the arrival of first responders with the Sacramento Fire Department. Although the teen was transported to a hospital for further treatment and evaluation, he reportedly passed away from his injuries later. A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of his family to help cover final resting expenses.

Elk Grove Boulevard Site of Fatal Crash

A fatal crash occurred in Elk Grove on June 19 when a red sedan struck a tree along Elk Grove Boulevard. The accident is unusual, according to a representative of the Elk Grove Police Department, because there were no witnesses to the accident, no one reported it and no one heard it. The fatal crash was discovered by a passing Elk Grove police officer who was patrolling the area at the time and phoned emergency responders.

Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash in Elk Grove

A motor vehicle crash in Elk Grove on May 31 caused the accident fatality of one man after his car struck a tree. The accident was reported by a spokesperson for the Elk Grove Police Department, who said it happened around 3:08 in the afternoon on westbound Laguna Boulevard, heading toward Bruceville Road. The driver, in a Honda Accord, crossed over the median into the opposing lane and tried to correct to reenter his lane. However, while making that maneuver, the vehicle struck a tree. The driver died in the crash.

Tragic Death in an Elk Grove Rear-End Collision on I-5

An Elk Grove rear-end collision on November 17 ended in the passing of a driver whose vehicle crashed into the back end of a tractor-trailer along Interstate 5 southbound. The accident happened shortly after 9:00 in the evening just south of Elk Grove Boulevard. When officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) arrived at the accident scene, they discovered that a Freightliner pulling a trailer had stopped because of an earlier crash south of that location. The driver of a Nissan Versa was going south in the number two lane at around 70 mph. The driver of the Nissan reportedly neither slowed down nor stopped and crashed into the rear end of the trailer being pulled by the Freightliner. Both the driver and a passenger in the Nissan sustained injuries that were fatal, while the driver of the semi and another passenger in the big rig were uninjured.

Single-Vehicle Fatal Crash in Elk Grove Under Investigation

A single-vehicle fatal crash occurred in the early morning hours on East Laguna Boulevard in the vicinity of Haussman Street in Elk Grove on November 12. The accident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m., according to an Elk Grove Police representative. The driver of a pickup died at the scene of the accident. The pickup was found in the slow lane with major damage to the operator’s side with metal sticking out where the impact occurred. It appeared as though the pickup traveled across the road from the fast lane to where it came to rest. The placement of the vehicle and damage led police to question if another motorist might have been involved. Authorities are asking the community for help requesting that anyone who saw the crash or might have additional information to call their headquarters. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the decedent as Nickolas Bustillos, 27, of Elk Grove.

Elk Grove Hit and Run Accident Kills Elderly Man

A hit and run accident on November 7 left an elderly man to die on Waterman Road in the vicinity of Sheldon and Calvine roads at about 6:00 p.m. Elk Grove Police responded to the call. Their investigators said it was their belief that the man, 85-year-old Edward Villasenor of Elk Grove, was standing on the shoulder of Waterman Road when he was struck by the fleeing vehicle. Police are searching for the driver they believe was in a red SUV thought to be a Ford Explorer. The police say the SUV’s front end was heavily damaged in the crash. It was last seen heading west on Calvine Road. Police remained at the scene investigating the crash and ask anyone to contact the Elk Grove Police Department if they have any further information about the accident. The public is also being asked to call if an SUV fitting the description is seen. Moreover, a GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of Mr. Villasenor’s family to help cover his funeral expenses.
