Multiple Collisions on SR-99 Near MLK Boulevard Leave One Person Hospitalized
A series of traffic collisions on SR-99 near MLK Boulevard blocked multiple lanes of southbound State Route 99 in Sacramento on Thursday, August 13, 2026, according to dispatch records.
Multiple Vehicles Involved in SR-99 Crashes
Initial reports described a gray SUV colliding with a white pickup truck towing a trailer. The impact reportedly caused the trailer to detach from the pickup and block additional travel lanes.
Dispatch records also referenced a separate collision involving a black Kia van, which was reportedly found facing the wrong direction in the slow lane.
The crashes created significant traffic disruptions as emergency crews responded and worked to remove the damaged vehicles and debris from the freeway.
One Person Transported to UC Davis Medical Center
During the emergency response, one occupant was reported to be possibly trapped inside a vehicle, prompting additional assistance at the scene.
A patient was later transported to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment. Authorities have not released information regarding the nature or severity of the person’s injuries.
Freeway Lanes Temporarily Blocked
The collisions blocked multiple southbound lanes, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on-ramp to southbound SR-99 was also temporarily closed.
Emergency personnel worked to clear the vehicles, trailer, and other roadway hazards. The freeway was fully reopened by early afternoon.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have not released additional information regarding what caused the initial collision or whether the crashes were directly related.
The circumstances remain under investigation, and additional details may become available as officials continue reviewing the incidents.
Secondary Freeway Collisions Can Create Serious Hazards
An initial freeway crash can quickly lead to additional collisions when disabled vehicles, detached trailers, or debris obstruct travel lanes. Drivers approaching a crash scene should reduce their speed, increase their following distance, and remain prepared for sudden lane closures or stopped traffic.
