Man in Wheelchair Hurt After Hit by Van in Modesto

A man in a wheelchair was seriously hurt after being hit by a van in Modesto on the morning of Thursday, September 24, 2020. The pedestrian accident happened shortly after 8:00 a.m. along the 200 block of West Orangeburg Avenue near Doctors Medical Center. The Modesto Police Department (Modesto PD) reported that a 67-year-old man riding in a power wheelchair and a van were both headed eastbound on Orangeburg Avenue.

Drowsy Driving Reported in Riverbank Car Accident

Drowsy driving was reported to be a possible factor in a Riverbank car accident that occurred on the morning of August 6, 2019. The three-car crash occurred around 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of Claribel Road and Albers Road, just east of Riverbank. It involved a white Ford sedan, a silver Ford SUV, and a red Dodge Nitro SUV. The Ford sedan was stopped at a red light at the intersection with the Dodge stopped behind it. The driver of the Ford SUV was approaching the two vehicles from behind and reportedly rear-ended the Dodge as the traffic light turned green. The impact propelled the Dodge into the Ford sedan, causing the Dodge to overturn and land on its roof. Fatigue was believed to be a factor in the crash, based on the statement provided to officials by the Ford SUV driver. Information on the number of people injured and their conditions was not immediately available.

Modesto Man Died in Car Accident

A Modesto man was killed in a Manteca car accident on the afternoon of July 12, 2019. The crash occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Dupont Circle and Spreckels Avenue in Manteca. A preliminary report by the Manteca Police Department suggested that the collision involved multiple vehicles, including a 2012 Toyota Corolla and a 1974 Chevrolet pickup truck. One of the drivers, identified as a Modesto man, was reportedly pinned inside his car and was described to be unresponsive. Crews from the Manteca Fire Department were called to the scene to extricate the man from the vehicle. Sadly, he was pronounced deceased at the scene by first responders. Officials have identified the decedent as 28-year-old Joshua Timby of Modesto. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Mr. Timby during this difficult time.

Modesto Man Killed in Broadside Collision

A Modesto man was killed in a broadside collision on the morning of June 17, 2019. The auto accident occurred shortly before 4:20 a.m. at the intersection of Hosmer Avenue and Ninth Street. A man was driving his Dodge west along Hosmer Avenue when he was broadsided by a northbound Toyota. Medical personnel responding to the crash performed life-saving measures on the Dodge driver. He was transported to the hospital for immediate treatment. Sadly, he was pronounced dead during hospitalization. Officials have identified the decedent as 67-year-old Joseph Ventura of Modesto. I would like to express my sincere sympathies to the family of Mr. Ventura during this difficult time.

Child Passed Away Week After Ceres DUI Crash

A child passed away a week after being hospitalized for a Ceres DUI crash. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a 46-year-old man was driving an SUV and crashed into a duplex along the 1200 block of Sam Street just outside Ceres city limits on June 9, 2019. A 38-year-old Ceres mother and her three daughters were sleeping inside the home at the time of the crash. The mother and her two youngest daughters, ages 3 and 5, passed away a short time after the accident. The eldest daughter, age 10, was airlifted to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment of serious injuries. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital on June 15, according to the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office. We would like to send our healing thoughts and prayers to the family of the mother and her three daughters, who lost their lives in this devastating accident.

Eight Injured in Ceres Auto Accident

At least eight parties were injured in a Ceres auto accident on the afternoon of June 10, 2019. The crash occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. along the southbound lanes of Highway 99 near Service Road. Two lanes were closed, and traffic was backed up to Briggsmore Avenue in Modesto. Multiple ambulances were called to the scene, including a helicopter for a child who suffered serious injuries. An update regarding the conditions of the eight people injured in the car accident has not yet been released by officials.

Woman and Children Killed in Ceres Crash

A woman and two young children were killed in a Ceres crash during the early morning hours of June 9, 2019. The car wreck occurred around 1:30 a.m. at a duplex located along the 1200 block of Sam Avenue. A 46-year-old Modesto man was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox west on Holm Avenue at a high rate of speed and reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign. The Chevrolet crashed through the fence and backyard of a duplex before colliding with the home. Emergency responders were called to the duplex and found a woman and three girls inside. A woman and two girls, ages 3 and 5, were transported to the hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries. A third girl, identified as a 10-year-old, was airlifted to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment of serious injuries. An update regarding her condition has not yet been released by officials. The woman has been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as 38-year-old Mari Luz Jacinto-Hernandez of Ceres. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Ms. Jacinto-Hernandez and the two girls whose lives were lost in this tragic accident.

Driver Arrested for Westley Hit and Run Fatality

A driver has been recently arrested for a Westley hit and run fatality that occurred on March 29, 2019. The motorist, a 34-year-old Whittier man, was driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe along Highway 33 near Cox Road shortly before 2:00 p.m. For unknown reasons, the Chevrolet veered into the oncoming traffic lane and forced another driver to lose control of his vehicle. This caused the other motorist to collide with a pole. The Whittier man reportedly never stopped to help the other driver and left him behind to succumb to his injuries at the scene. Fortunately, the Whittier man was later tracked down by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) with the assistance of U.S. Marshals in Southern California. He was arrested on suspicion of hit and run and felony vehicular manslaughter. This news has brought relief for the family of the decedent, 59-year-old Saul Davis of Patterson, knowing that the person responsible for their loved one’s death is now behind bars. We would like to send our thoughts and prayers to the loved ones of Mr. Davis in their time of loss.

A Modesto triple fatality accident recently occurred along Highway 99, just north of Pelandale Avenue. A driver of a GMC Yukon was traveling northbound along the southbound lanes of Highway 99 when their vehicle sideswiped another car. The wrong way driver continued for a short time before striking a Chevrolet Tahoe head-on. Sadly, the Chevrolet driver and two occupants of the GMC succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Officials have identified the Chevrolet driver as 24-year-old Terilyn Peralta of Salida and the GMC motorist as 32-year-old Marques A. Rodriguez of Manteca.
