Another Fatal Accident on Highway 70

On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 4, 2021, two people were killed in an accident on Highway 70 when their vehicle hit the rear of an SUV, then lost control and collided with a tree. The deceased parties were identified by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as a 20-year-old male and a 17-year-old male. Later reports indicate that the two young men were brothers from the Olivehurst area. 

Bipartisan Legislation Introduced

Bipartisan legislation was introduced in March to require auto manufacturers to install technologies aimed at preventing drunk driving as standard equipment in all new vehicles. The HALT Act was introduced by U.S. Representatives Debbie Dingell (D-Michigan), Kathleen Rice (D-New York), and David McKinley (R-West Virginia). If the bill passes, the U.S. Department of Transportation will issue a requirement that drunk driving prevention technology must be installed in all new passenger vehicles.

Accident on Olive Avenue Near Livingston Results in a Fatality

A head-on crash on May 2 caused the death of a driver when his vehicle collided with a Peterbilt pulling a utility trailer. The collision happened around 12:42 in the morning along Olive Avenue near Cressey Way, east of Livingston. The incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the driver, identified as Jose Nunez, a 42-year-old resident of Winton, crossed the double yellow line on the road in his Honda Civic and struck the Peterbilt head-on. 

Accident Along Highway 160 Ends in Driver’s Fatality

A fatal accident was found by a bicyclist on a rural Delta road on May 1 near Clarksburg. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the bicycle rider contacted the police through 911 at about 9:20 in the morning because they had discovered an SUV overturned off Highway 160 (River Road) on the levee. Officers, upon arriving at the accident scene, discovered the single occupant in the vehicle had died. She was identified as a resident of Rancho Cordova, age 24.  

Accident on Highway 108 Involves Passenger Vehicle and Box Truck

A head-on crash took the life of a woman near Oakdale on April 30 after colliding with a box truck. The accident happened around 6:10 in the morning along Highway 108 near Lancaster Road. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that when emergency personnel came upon the scene, they found a Volkswagen sedan and box truck blocking the eastbound lane of Highway 108. The vehicles had sustained major damage. 

Three Killed in Oroville Street Racing Incident

A heartbreaking tragedy occurred in south Oroville on Thursday, April 30, 2021, and it appears to have been caused by street racing. Two men and a two-year-old girl suffered fatal injuries, and another young child was hospitalized with severe injuries following the collision. 

Accident Between Motorcycle and Semi Causes Major Backup

A motorcycle collision with a big rig on April 27 resulted in a fatality in San Joaquin County along Interstate 5. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a motorcyclist going northbound near State Road 12 and Flag City collided with a big rig going in the same direction at about 3:45 in the afternoon. The motorcycle rider passed away from injuries suffered in the collision.

Carmichael Woman Dies in Fresno County Single-Vehicle Collision

A fatal crash occurred on April 25, claiming the life of a Carmichael woman when the driver of the U-Haul she was riding in lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. The accident occurred along northbound Highway 99 at Fowler in Fresno County around 8:00 in the morning. Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and a bystander managed to save the driver of the U-Haul but were unable to rescue the Carmichael woman, who was a passenger.
