Sacramento State Announces Sad News

California State University, Sacramento (CSUS/Sac State) issued a Hornets Sports news release on July 22, 2021, that former star Hornets quarterback, Greg Knapp, 58, had passed away from injuries he suffered in a bicycle accident on July 17th. Following his Sac State quarterback career, Mr. Knapp had gone on to coach for Hornets Football before he transitioned to several coaching positions with the National Football League (NFL). At the time of his death, Knapp was employed as a passing game coordinator for the New York Jets. 

Chain Reaction Crash on Adobe Road

On the afternoon of Wednesday, July 21, 2021, a female passenger riding in a Chevrolet Volt was fatally injured in a Lakeville crash. The collisions were initiated when a pickup truck struck the rear of another pickup, which sent the second truck veering into oncoming traffic, according to a representative from the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Woman Killed on Highway 99 Near Mingo Road

A suspected drunk driver was placed under arrest following a number of collisions that occurred on July 18 that cost the life of a Galt woman, aged 65. The initial collision involved a Stockton man, age 25, who turned unsafely in his Ford Mustang along northbound Highway 99 and collided with the barriers and center median near Mingo Road at around 5:14 a.m. Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the man showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest following a DUI check.

Vehicle Causes Pedestrian Fatality on North 12th Street

A fatal pedestrian accident occurred in Sacramento on July 16 after a man on foot was struck by a motor vehicle. The accident report by the Sacramento Police Department said the collision occurred shortly before 3:00 in the morning on North 12th Street, where it intersects with B Street north of downtown. As of the time of this report, no information has been released on what caused the accident. 

Accident on U.S. 50 Results in a Traffic Fatality

A traffic fatality happened in Rancho Cordova on July 13 as a result of a two-vehicle accident. The collision happened around 6:25 p.m. along eastbound U.S. 50 just east of Hazel Avenue. According to the incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash involved two sedans. 

Fatal Auto Accidents in Humboldt County

Humboldt Bay Fire Department (HBFD) recently released a statement on their Facebook page reporting that the county has automobile accident fatality rates that are twice the national average. Additionally, Humboldt County has nearly three times the fatal accidents compared to the rest of California. The county recorded a record number of accident deaths in 2017 – specifically, 25.26 fatalities per 100,000.  Pursuant to statistics from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), in 2013, the county’s per-capita auto fatality rate was higher than that of any state within the nation except for Montana.

Don Julio Boulevard Intersection Site of Fatal Motorcycle Accident

A fatal motorcycle accident happened in North Highlands on July 14 after the rider was involved in a collision with a motor vehicle. The traffic accident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the crash happened around 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of Don Julio Boulevard and Bolivar Avenue. Emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived and attempted to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, however, the rider died at the scene. The CHP is performing an investigation into the cause of the accident.

Man Pushing Vehicle on I-80 Struck

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that late in the evening, on Monday, July 12, 2021, a person was struck and killed in the act of pushing a vehicle. This tragedy occurred near Davis, California, on Interstate 80 (I-80). Following that incident, a chain reaction of crashes occurred, involving a total of four vehicles.
