Pilot Survives Plane Crash in Modesto

A pilot who crashed in Modesto on Highway 99 on September 27 says his survival after the plane crash was miraculous. The Stanislaus County accident happened at about 7:50 in the evening and, according to a representative of the FAA, the flyer was the only person on board the single-engine Piper Dakota. The pilot, Dirk Kanngiesser, age 59 and a resident of Santa Cruz, said he has been flying a plane for 25 years and took off from Truckee. He was on his way to San Martin when his plane experienced engine failure. Kanngiesser said he knew quick action was necessary because it was going to be a hard landing and the odds were against him. However, luck was with him that night because he walked away from the crash with only minor injuries. The accident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the FAA to determine what happened.

Hit and Run Accident in Modesto

A hit and run driver in Modesto seriously injured a pedestrian near a local bar on September 14. According to the Modesto Police Department, the accident injured Jonah Johnson, age 27, as he was crossing the street near the Tiki Lounge, located on McHenry Avenue. Johnson was there celebrating Pride with friends. Initially, he was listed as being in critical condition but expected to survive. Johnson was released from the intensive care unit at the hospital on Monday.

Biker Injured in Modesto Motorcycle Accident

A biker was injured in a Modesto motorcycle accident on the morning of September 1, 2019. The crash occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Carpenter Road in the vicinity of Woodland Avenue. A driver of a Chevrolet Silverado was turning left into a Chevron gas station parking lot, and a motorcycle rider was headed northbound on Carpenter Road. For unknown reasons, the Chevrolet was involved in a collision with the biker. The Chevrolet came to a stop partly in the gas station lot while the bike remained upright with its front tire caught with the rear bumper of the Chevrolet. First responders were called to the scene to transport the motorcycle rider to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Updates regarding his condition were not immediately available.

Man Killed in Modesto Hit and Run

A man in his 20s was killed in a Modesto hit and run accident on July 23, 2019. The pedestrian accident occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. along Vivian Road in the vicinity of Service Road in south Modesto. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said a man was walking in the area when he was struck by an oncoming driver. The motorist reportedly drove away from the scene, leaving the injured man behind to succumb to his injuries. Officials have identified the decedent as 25-year-old Brian Crooks of Illinois. Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of Mr. Crooks during this difficult time.

Woman Seriously Hurt in Bicycle Accident

A female cyclist was critically injured in a Modesto bicycle accident on the night of July 10, 2019. The bike crash occurred around 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of 5th Street and I Street in downtown Modesto. A woman was riding her bicycle in the area when she was struck by a Nissan Sentra. The impact of the collision caused serious injuries to the woman, who was transported to the hospital for treatment. Officials have not yet released additional information regarding her condition.

Mother and Baby Injured in Modesto Pedestrian Accident

A mother and her baby were injured in a Modesto pedestrian accident on the afternoon of July 9, 2019. The crash occurred shortly after 3:25 p.m. at the intersection of Tully Road and Mount Vernon Drive. First responders arrived on the scene and reported that the 23-year-old mother and her 1-year-old son were alert and conscious. The boy was transported via air ambulance to the hospital for precautionary measures. It is unknown whether the mother was also hospitalized for her injuries.

Waterford Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident

A Waterford man was killed in a recent motorcycle accident. The crash occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. along the Oakdale-Waterford Highway and Rice Road. A Denair woman was stopped for a stop sign at the intersection and was preparing to make a left turn on the highway. At the same time, a man was riding a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle north on the roadway when the Denair woman’s SUV pulled out into his path. The motorcycle and the vehicle collided, causing the SUV to catch fire. The woman was able to exit her car on her own and was treated at a Modesto hospital for moderate injuries. Sadly, the motorcycle rider was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officials have identified the biker as 38-year-old Thomas Butler of Waterford. I would like to send my healing thoughts and prayers to the loved ones of Mr. Butler during this difficult time.

Two Teenagers Injured in Modesto Rollover

Two teenagers were hospitalized following a rollover accident that took place near Modesto High School on Thursday, June 27, 2019. The accident involved two vehicles and happened in the afternoon. Updates from medical staff at the hospital indicated that neither of the teens suffered life-threatening trauma. However, specific information about their injuries was unavailable at the time of reporting. Officials of the Modesto Police Department (MPD) have reported that they are currently investigating this incident in order to determine what factors were involved.
