Driver Ejected From Vehicle in Fatal Crash

The Elk Grove driver was ejected from the vehicle. Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be involved as a cause of the fatality accident. Drivers were advised to avoid the area, which reopened around 9:00 a.m. The accident is under investigation to determine the cause.

Fatalities in a Single-Vehicle Accident

Families often not only face grief and sorrow over the loss of a loved one in a single-vehicle collision but confusion because they wonder why the accident occurred. Although most fatal accidents involving a solo vehicle happen due to some type of driver error such as speeding or distracted driving, there are other causes that can come into play. If negligence by another person or entity was the reason for the fatality accident, the family can place a wrongful death claim to recover compensation.

  • Defects in the motor vehicle: Defects often play a role in causing a fatal crash involving a single vehicle. For example, a tire blowout because of defective tread, failing brakes or an accelerator that sticks can all cause this type of accident. Retaining the vehicle following a crash is important, so engineers can examine it for defects that caused or contributed to the accident. If a defect is found, the family may place an auto product liability claim against the manufacturer and others in the production line.
  • Aggressive drivers or those with road rage: Some people with anger issues take their frustration and rage out on innocent motorists sharing the roadway. Drivers who take their anger out on others can tailgate, verbally intimidate other drivers, cut in and out of traffic or even force another motorist off the road. If this occurs, an injury lawyer can determine if another motorist was present and caused the accident by examining marks on the roadway and area traffic surveillance cameras.
  • Road maintenance problems: When roads are in poor repair, it can lead to a fatal crash. Whether from potholes, malfunctioning traffic lights, missing or difficult to see signage, or other problems, an injury lawyer can investigate and determine if something of this nature caused the collision. The government entity that is supposed to maintain the area can be held financially liable if a roadway problem led to the accident. Because the time limit for filing a claim against a government entity is six months, getting help from an injury lawyer may be helpful to avoid late filing. If a claim is filed after the date has expired, the case won’t be heard in court.
