Accident Near Bruceville Road Results in Fatal Rollover
A rollover traffic crash in Elk Grove on August 7 cost a life during the early morning hours. The collision occurred when a truck experienced a rollover at about 3:30 a.m. along Kammerer Road, close to Bruceville Road. Authorities with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident caused the male driver of the truck to be ejected from the vehicle. The patient was transported to Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center and declared dead from his injuries. No additional information by authorities was released. The CHP investigation into the crash is ongoing to determine what happened.
Rollovers are one of the most dangerous types of accidents. In this type of crash, occupants inside the vehicle stand a higher risk of being ejected, which is often fatal. Other problems can also increase injuries in a rollover. For example, the seat belt might be defective and break, causing the person inside to be tossed around. Defects in airbags may be a problem also and cause them to deflate quickly, increasing the risk of trauma. An accident attorney can determine fault in an auto collision and collect the evidence necessary to support a wrongful death claim by the family.
Causes of a Rollover Crash
Most rollovers occur due to driver negligence. The driver may have been speeding, texting while driving, intoxicated or committing another negligent act that led to the overturned vehicle. However, there are occasions when the accident occurred due to an influence from the outside, such as:
- Bad roads can cause a vehicle to turn over. Potholes, soft shoulders, curves that are too sharp and other problems can lead to an accident. An accident attorney can determine through an investigation if government negligence or poor design contributed to or caused a fatality accident. If it did, the government entity in charge of design and maintenance could be held financially liable. The statute of limitations for filing against a government entity is a mere six months, so getting help from an injury lawyer can ensure paperwork is filed correctly and on time. Otherwise, the case will not be heard in court.
- A defective auto part can cause a rollover collision. There are many things in a vehicle that can cause this type of collision. For example, brakes that fail, a steering wheel that freezes or an accelerator that sticks can cause a car to overturn. Another defect that results in serious injuries or fatalities is roof crush. This occurs when the manufacturer didn’t design the vehicle with enough strength to prevent the roof from caving in during the rollover. Retaining a vehicle after a fatality accident is vital so that it can be examined for defects. If it is determined that a defective part led to the collision, the manufacturer, designer and others may be held responsible by filing an auto product liability claim.
