Elk Grove Woman Killed in Head-On Crash After Driver Allegedly Fled Hit-and-Run

A 78-year-old woman killed in head-on crash on Thursday night after another driver allegedly fled a separate hit-and-run crash moments earlier, according to the Elk Grove Police Department.

Fatal Crash on Elk Grove Boulevard

Officers responded at approximately 9:15 p.m. to the intersection of Elk Grove Boulevard and Stonelake Drive, where they found a two-vehicle collision involving a silver Honda Accord and a white Honda Accord.

The silver Honda had overturned onto its side, while the white Honda sustained catastrophic damage to the driver’s side, windshield, and roof.

Preliminary Investigation

Traffic investigators believe the white-colored Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Elk Grove Boulevard when the silver-colored Honda sedan, traveling westbound, crossed into the eastbound lanes.

According to police, the silver Honda struck the center median, became airborne, and then collided head-on with the white Honda.

The sole occupant of the white Honda, a 78-year-old Elk Grove woman, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the silver Honda, a 51-year-old Sacramento woman, sustained multiple serious injuries and was transported to a hospital. Authorities said her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Earlier Hit-and-Run Under Investigation

Investigators determined the driver of the silver Honda had allegedly been involved in a minor hit-and-run collision with another vehicle on Elk Grove Boulevard shortly before the fatal crash.

Police also stated that alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the collision.

Because the driver remains hospitalized, no arrest has been made at this time. However, the investigation remains active, and authorities indicated that charges may be pursued following the completion of the investigation.

The Consequences of Impaired and Reckless Driving

Driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a collision can have devastating consequences. Alcohol impairs judgment, reaction time, and decision-making, increasing the risk of catastrophic crashes. Drivers should always make responsible choices by arranging a sober ride and remaining at the scene of any collision as required by law.
