Two Killed in Early Morning Crash on Waterman Road in Elk Grove
Two 21-year-olds lost their lives in a solo vehicle crash on Waterman Road in Elk Grove on Tuesday morning, May 12, 2026, according to the Elk Grove Police Department.
Vehicle Struck Light Pole Near Sheldon Road
Emergency crews were dispatched around 5:03 a.m. to northbound Waterman Road, just south of Sheldon Road.
Police said a 21-year-old man driving the vehicle lost control before crashing into a light pole on the east side of the roadway. Authorities confirmed that both the driver and a 21-year-old female passenger died at the scene.
Investigation Into Cause of Crash
Investigators said speed is believed to have been a factor in the collision. Authorities are still working to determine whether drugs or alcohol may also have contributed to the crash.
The roadway remained closed for several hours following the collision and fully reopened by approximately 10:45 a.m.
