American Heart Association Reminds Us to Eat Smart

November is Eat Smart Month, a calendar designation created by the American Heart Association.  The campaign encourages Americans to commit to healthier eating habits.  Making such a commitment can be a big challenge, especially in November given that it is the beginning of the holiday eating season.  One of the goals of the campaign is to remind Americans to keep healthier eating ideas in mind in order to avoid some of the overindulgences that are commonly associated with family gatherings.

CDC Recommendations for Safe Trick-or-Treating

As with everything this year, Halloween may look a little different.  There may be fewer trick-or-treaters out and about.  Then again, the holiday falls on a Saturday this year, and since this outdoor activity can be safely modified, be sure to have those bags of candy ready just in case! 

NHTSA Unveils New Crash Test Dummy

During Child Passenger Safety Week, which concluded on September 26, 2020, the United States Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) proposed new regulatory updates aimed to improve car seat safety for children.  The agency also introduced a new crash test dummy.  The purpose of both is to save young lives.

Chronic Pain Patients – Must We Live With It?

Corvette Recall – Faulty Hood Can Fly Open 

The 2020 Chevrolet mid-engine Corvette is undergoing a recall due to a faulty hood.  Drivers are being warned that they should remain alert for warning chimes and lights indicating that the car’s hood is not completely latched.  Failure to heed those warnings could result in the hood flying open while the car is in motion.  The Corvette recall is being issued in response to a number of complaints that have been made to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and to Chevrolet from drivers who report that their vehicle’s hood has sprung open while the car was being operated, obscuring the driver’s vision completely.

Self-Driving Vehicles, also known as Autonomous Vehicles, are already being tested on the road in communities throughout the United States.  Given that, consumer advocates are urging regulators and manufacturers to take immediate action to promote child passenger safety.
