Woman Killed After Hit by Car in Merced

A 25-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a car in Merced, CA, on the morning of January 16, 2020. The pedestrian accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Ashby Road and Fern Street, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). A woman was walking in the area when she was reportedly hit by an oncoming vehicle headed about 35 miles per hour. Sadly, she was pronounced deceased at the scene by officials. Her name has been withheld by the Merced County Coroner’s Office as they are working to notify her family.

One Killed in Merced County Truck Accident

One person was killed in a truck accident near Gustine, CA, in Merced County on January 8, 2020. The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Interstate 5, just south of Highway 140, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). A 2014 Volvo tractor-trailer was traveling on I-5 when, for unknown reasons, it veered into the oncoming traffic lane. The Volvo reportedly sideswiped a 2013 Peterbilt big rig hauling a tanker filled with gas, causing the tanker to overturn along the shoulder of Interstate 5 and spill an unknown amount of gasoline. The Volvo continued and crashed head-on with a 2004 Lexus ES330. The driver of the Lexus and one of the two passengers reported minor injuries. Sadly, the second passenger of the Lexus passed away at the scene. Officials have identified him as Jamee Chargualaf, 24, of Lemoore.

Woman Killed in Merced County Pedestrian Accident

A woman was killed, and her husband was injured in a pedestrian accident near Atwater, CA and Castle Air Force Base in Merced County on the night of December 16, 2019. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the westbound lanes of Santa Fe Avenue at Wallace Road, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported. A woman was walking in the area with her husband when they were both struck from behind by an oncoming Nissan that was driven by a 26-year-old resident of Livingston. The husband was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries described as moderate and non-life threatening. Sadly, his wife was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel. The Merced County Coroner’s Office has identified her as 77-year-old Maria Luna of Winton.

Two Killed in Rollover Accident Near Merced County

Two people were killed in a fiery rollover accident in Merced County on the morning of December 5, 2019. The crash occurred around 3:00 a.m. at the intersection of Franklin Road and Santa Fe Drive. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said four people were driving together on Santa Fe Drive when the driver, for unknown reasons, lost control of the car. This caused the vehicle to overturn several times and catch fire. Medical responders were called to the scene to transport a man to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. A woman was also taken to the hospital and was reported to be in critical condition. Sadly, the other two parties inside the vehicle passed away at the scene. Officials have withheld their identities until their families have been notified.

Man Killed in Merced County Pedestrian Accident

A Santa Rosa man was killed in a Merced County pedestrian accident on the night of November 11, 2019. The incident occurred along southbound Interstate 5 and Mercy Springs Road, just northwest of Los Banos. A man was driving a white GMC pickup truck on I-5 and pulled onto the shoulder of the roadway. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the left rear tire of the flatbed trailer he was towing was blown. Officials believe he stepped out of his vehicle to change his blown tire when he was hit by an unidentified car. Emergency personnel was called to the scene by other drivers passing by the incident. Upon the arrival of authorities, they found the man unconscious underneath the trailer and attempted to perform life-saving measures. Sadly, he passed away from his injuries. Officials have identified the decedent as 51-year-old Stanley Crossland of Santa Rosa.

One Dead in Fatal Merced Motorcycle Collision

On Friday, October 25, 2019, a Merced motorcycle collision left one person with fatal injuries. According to area California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers, the accident only involved a single vehicle and did not leave any other individuals with injuries. The decedent has been identified by Merced County Sheriff’s Department authorities as 28-year-old Hilmar resident Jacob McComb. An investigation into the accident is being conducted by CHP personnel.

Alleged Merced County DUI Fatally Injures Two

Information released by officials of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicates that two people tragically lost their lives in an alleged Merced County DUI on Thursday, October 24, 2019. The accident involved two vehicles and left two more people with injuries. While one of the injured individuals suffered minor trauma, the other was hospitalized and in serious condition following the accident. So far, neither of the identities of the decedents have been released by Merced County authorities. Police say that they have placed one of the drivers involved in the accident under arrest on charges related to DUI. The accident remains under active investigation.

CalFire Captain Killed in Los Banos Head-On Crash

A CalFire captain and one other person were killed in a Los Banos head-on crash on the morning of October 2, 2019. The collision was reported to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) shortly after 7:00 a.m. It occurred along Highway 140 near Gustine, just north of Los Banos. Authorities said a motorist of a westbound Dodge Ram truck was involved in a head-on collision with an eastbound Ford Ranger. The impact of the crash reportedly caused the Dodge Ram to overturn along the south shoulder of the highway while the Ford Ranger veered out of control and caught fire. The car accident also involved a Ford Crown Victoria carrying two occupants, both of which suffered minor injuries. Sadly, both drivers of the Ford and the Dodge pickups were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two Killed in Merced County Car Accident

Two people were killed in a Merced County car accident on the evening of August 19, 2019. The collision happened shortly after 6:00 p.m. at Avenue 24 and Road 22 near Chowchilla. A 55-year-old United Kingdom man was driving a Toyota Rav-4 with his three family members northbound on Road 22. For unknown reasons, he reportedly failed to yield for a sign at the intersection. The Toyota then collided with a Saturn van occupied by four Chowchilla residents. The impact of the collision propelled the Saturn into a power pole, causing it to fall to the ground. The Toyota veered out of control into an irrigation ditch. Emergency responders were called to the scene to transport the four occupants of the Toyota to the Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment of serious injuries. The 47-year-old man who was driving the Saturn and his 18-year-old passenger were both critically injured and taken to the hospital for immediate treatment. Sadly, the other two passengers in the Saturn were pronounced deceased at the scene. Officials have identified the decedents as 45-year-old Gregoria Gudino Vargas and 50-year-old Martina Gudino Vargas, both residents of Chowchilla.

Teen Dies in Merced Area ATV Crash

According to information from California Highway Patrol (CHP), a teenage girl lost her life in a Merced county ATV accident that took place on Saturday, June 22, 2019. Two days later, the girl was identified as a 16-year-old resident of Le Grand and a junior at the local high school. In addition to the fatally injured girl, two more teenagers suffered moderate injuries as a result of the accident. CHP has indicated that authorities are still investigating this tragic accident.
