Antioch Crash Kills Oakley Man

A man tragically lost his life during a crash that took place in Antioch on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. The Antioch Police Department (APD) reported that the accident occurred at night on a local highway offramp and involved two vehicles. The decedent has been identified as a 52-year-old Oakley man. However, his name has not been released. Additionally, an 18-year-old Antioch man was hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries.

Man Killed in Oakley Head-On Collision

A Bethel Island man was killed in a recent car accident near Oakley, CA. The fatal accident happened shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Bethel Island Rd, just north of Cypress Rd in Oakley. The deceased man was 69-years old and ultimately died from his injuries that resulted in the crash. The man has been identified by the Contra Costa Office of the Sheriff’s Coroner Division as Wally Driskell. A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of the Driskell family to help cover their loved one’s funeral expenses.

One Killed, Two Injured in Oakley Multi-car Crash

A three-car accident in Oakley left two people injured and another dead on Saturday, October 12. The late-night collision required emergency response crews that were dispatched to medically assist those involved in the multi-car wreck. All cars involved were severely damaged. Two people were hospitalized for their minor-to-moderate injuries. Jose Antonio “Tony” Leon, a 22-year old Byron resident, died at the scene. The accident is still under an active investigation by local authorities. Anyone that was a witness to the crash or has relevant information is asked to call the Martinez CHP at (925) 646-4980.

Pedestrian Deaths at Highest Rate in 28 Years

In 2018, pedestrian deaths in the United States were the highest they’ve been since 1990 according to preliminary data collected by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA). The data reported by the GHSA was originally obtained by the State Highway Safety Offices  (SHSO), including both state and national trends across all 50 states and the District of Columbia (DC). The preliminary data obtained by the SHSO suggests that the alarming rise in pedestrian fatalities that occurred between 2015 – 2017 has continued through 2018. GHSA estimates that 6,227 pedestrians were killed in auto accidents in 2018, which reflects a 4 percent increase from 2017.


Oakley Man Identified After a Fatal House Fire

On Sunday night, November 5, 2017, a man from Santa Rosa was involved in a head-on crash with a female driving a Toyota Corolla. The female, Paulette Geronimo Quiba, was pronounced dead at the crash site. My sincerest condolences go out to those affected by this terrible tragedy.
