Oakley Three Car Accident: Current Details Available

The collision was reported to emergency personnel around 11:26 p.m. that Saturday night. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers and East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to the accident. Both responders showed up to the location of the incident which was on the 200 block of Delta Rd, east of Main St. Both agencies used their Facebook pages to post about the tragic event.

According to a preliminary investigation, CHP officers said that Leon had been driving an Infiniti sedan, which initially struck a Ford pickup truck before hurdling into a Dodge sedan that was parked on Delta Rd. They also said that Leon was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident. In a statement later released by CHP, they publicized the tragedy of a young life being taken so early. They also emphasized the importance of safe driving habits, such as wearing a seat belt and driving at a slow speed.

It was later determined by investigators that the Ford truck had been driving in the eastbound lanes on Delta, approaching a left turn into a residential driveway. At the same time, investigators said the Infiniti came towards the Ford from behind while driving at high speed. The Infiniti then reportedly switched into the westbound lanes in an attempt to pass the Ford only to end up hitting the left side of the vehicle, rolling in the eastbound direction, and striking the Dodge on the north side of the roadway.

Leon was not alone in the Infiniti during the collision but shared the vehicle with a 21-year old female passenger from Oakley. The female passenger sustained moderate injuries and was transported to John Muir in Walnut Creek. She has already been released. The Ford truck driver was taken to Kaiser Medical Center in Antioch for a minor injury, and since then has been cleared as well. Investigators are saying that speed was a contributing factor to the collision. Whether drugs or alcohol were involved has yet to be determined.
