Oakley Man Identified After a Fatal House Fire

I’m Ed Smith, an Oakley Wrongful Death Lawyer. Last week, a clutter-filled house was ravaged when it caught fire at night. The man who passed away during this tragedy has now been identified as Jose Gonzalez. I would like to express my deepest sorrow to all those that are affected by this devastating loss. The details of this accident can be found below.

House On Star Street Destroyed

Officials report that 50-year old Oakley resident, Jose Gonzalez, resided in the vacant home located on 400 block of Star Street as a transient. The owner of the house was unaware that the residence was occupied.

On Monday, November 13, 2017, Jose Gonzalez was officially identified thanks to the help of the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office.

House Clutter Stalled Firefighters From Getting In

The house fire was called in to local fire crews at around 2:30 a.m. on the morning of November 7. Once inside the building, firefighters discovered Gonzalez taking refuge in a rear bathroom. Gonzalez was rushed to a hospital via ambulance. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

It took all firefighters on deck approximately 25 minutes to take down the fire, due to the “hoarder-like conditions” throughout the house and rear yard, according to East Contra Costa Fire Protection District‘s Battalion Chief Ross Macumber. However, the firefighters located Gonzalez very shortly after entering the house.

While the origin of the house fire is still under investigation by authorities, they do not believe that the fire was intentional.

The Mourning Process After Losing a Loved One

It is never easy to grieve through the devastating experience of losing someone whom you cherished. Everyone reacts to bereavement with different coping methods, and ultimately there is no “wrong way” to cope.

It is common for people to isolate themselves from family and friends while they are coping with grief. While this is a completely natural reaction, it is very important to receive emotional support during these difficult times. More often than not, your loved ones truly want to help you, but they may be uncertain how to do so. In these cases, opening up and expressing your true emotions will only benefit yourself and those around you.

Establishing an artistic outlet for yourself is an alternative way of creating healthy coping mechanisms. Whether you find emotional relief through writing, drawing, or performing arts, all of these options allow for emotional expression that many people find therapeutic and helpful in their healing processes.
