Intersection Crash Kills One Person and Seriously Injures Another

An intersection crash on Wednesday, October 28, in North Highlands resulted in a passenger’s death and seriously injured the driver of an Audi. Reports say that the Audi was being pursued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) for a traffic infraction just prior to the intersection crash. Upon entering the intersection of Myrtle and Watt avenues at about 1:20 in the early morning hours, the Audi hit two vehicles. 

Accident Involving Out-of-Control Van Ends in a Traffic Fatality

A traffic fatality occurred in North Highlands on October 2 as the result of a head-on collision. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) around 12:30 in the afternoon along Roseville Road, near Watt Avenue. The driver of a Ford Econoline van, age 56 and a Sacramento resident, was going south on the road when his vehicle suddenly swerved onto the shoulder on the right and passed back across and crashed into a Ford Escape traveling north. 

Union Pacific Train Struck and Killed Pedestrian on Railroad Tracks

A pedestrian was hit by a Union Pacific train at about 4:00 in the early morning hours in North Highlands on February 10, according to local authorities. The pedestrian was reported to be on the tracks when the accident happened. The train was heading west in the vicinity of the Roseville Road and Longview Drive intersection. Both the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and emergency responders were called to the scene. Attempts were made to revive the pedestrian, but the man died at the accident site. Pending notification of family, an identification of the pedestrian will be issued by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. An investigation was conducted into why the crash occurred; however, it was unknown why the pedestrian was on the tracks. This accident is the second train accident in less than a week involving Union Pacific around Sacramento. 

Driver Killed in Accident on Auburn Boulevard

A fatal crash in North Highlands left one man dead after his vehicle was struck by a GMC Yukon on Auburn Boulevard at about 8:30 in the evening. According to a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the man was identified as 20-year-old Oleksandr Podolianchuk of North Highlands. The CHP said that he reportedly pulled out of the parking lot at the Dutch Bros coffee drive-through near Kohler Road and into the path of the Yukon on the boulevard. The driver of the Yukon, age 26, reported he was unable to stop in time to avoid the 2009 Infiniti Coupe. The driver of the Infiniti, identified as Podolianchuk, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 9:00 p.m. The CHP is investigating the fatal crash to determine why and how it happened. The CHP is asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call them at 916-348-2300.

Pedestrian Fatality in North Highlands

A pedestrian fatality occurred in North Highlands on November 21 when a woman died while crossing Roseville Road at approximately 5:18 a.m. A spokesman for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in North Sacramento reported that the woman was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup along Roseville Road, where it intersects with Tacomic Drive. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators into the accident. 

North Highlands Woman Killed in Hit and Run Accident

On October 3 in North Highlands, a woman crossing the street while walking her dog was struck and killed by a hit and run driver. The accident happened along A Street, close to South Haven Drive, when she was hit by a 1993 to 1995 Honda Civic coupe, described as brown or another dark color. The woman’s dog was injured and transported to the Sacramento County animal control shelter. It was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) that the vehicle that struck the woman fled the scene and was last spotted heading east along A Street.  The vehicle has front end damage that is moderate to severe. The CHP is in charge of the investigation into the pedestrian fatality.

The man was killed by an individual who stole his vehicle and used it to run over him at a Del Taco in North Highlands.
