The KEYS Grant – Keeping Everyone Safe

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) recently issued a press release describing its determination to assist motorists aged 65 and older in keeping their driver’s license and driving independence. This goal will be pursued through the financial support of a renewed annual federal program called the KEYS Grant. The acronym stands for Keeping Everyone Safe and is in its thirteenth iteration. Through federal funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the CHP will keep offering in-person and virtual traffic safety programs that emphasize mobility combined with road safety for senior drivers throughout the state of California.

Teen Driver Education Grant Renewed

The latest in a series of Office of Traffic Safety (OTS)/National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) grants has been renewed, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The campaign funded by this grant will be directed toward promoting safe teen driving. The monies from the grant will help the agency provide new young drivers the “keys” to safe driving behaviors.

Child Passenger Safety Awareness

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) issued a press release announcing their campaign for Child Passenger Safety Week, which runs from September 19th through September 25th. During that period, the agency will work to educate the public on how important it is to ensure that young vehicle passengers are secured in a properly installed and fitted child safety seat. 

Palermo Collision Injures Three

Shortly before 10:00 p.m. on the evening of Sunday, June 6, 2021, an officer with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and two others suffered injuries in a crash that occurred in Palermo, California. Palermo is approximately six miles outside of Oroville. The crash location was in the vicinity of Lone Tree Road and Palermo Road.

Three Killed in Oroville Street Racing Incident

A heartbreaking tragedy occurred in south Oroville on Thursday, April 30, 2021, and it appears to have been caused by street racing. Two men and a two-year-old girl suffered fatal injuries, and another young child was hospitalized with severe injuries following the collision.
