Driver Killed After Fatal Car Accident in Modesto

A driver was fatally injured and another was critically injured after a fatal car accident on Standiford Avenue in the Modesto area on the night of Friday, October 23, 2020. The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Carver Road and Standiford Avenue at approximately 9:15 p.m. A red Jeep Wrangler reportedly pulled out of a parking lot onto the north side of Standiford Avenue and attempted to make a left-hand turn into the eastbound lanes. While doing so, her Jeep was reportedly broadsided by an Infiniti coupe headed westbound, the Modesto Police Department (Modesto PD) reported.

Modesto Accident Fatally Injures Elderly Woman

An elderly woman passed away on the morning of February 11 after being struck by an oncoming vehicle in north Modesto. The incident occurred along Standiford Avenue in the vicinity of Polaris Street at around 9:00 in the morning. An elderly woman driving a Chevrolet Malibu pulled her vehicle over to the right side of the road. For unknown reasons, the woman exited her car and was standing next to her open driver’s side door. One vehicle approaching the Chevrolet was able to move over in time to avoid a collision. A second car, identified as a Nissan Rogue, was unable to stop and collided with the elderly pedestrian. Sadly, the woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Officials have identified the decedent as 76-year-old Paula Matos of Modesto. I would like to send my thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Ms. Matos while they are grieving their tragic loss.

A head-on collision north of Don Pedro Reservoir claimed the life of an Oakdale woman on the night of January 31, 2019. The auto accident occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. along Highway 120 just west of Sims Road. A 37-year-old Modesto woman was driving eastbound along the highway in a Ford Explorer with an infant in the back seat. The woman approached a curve in the road and crossed into the oncoming traffic lane in the direct path of a Toyota Prius. The two vehicles then collided head-on. The Ford driver suffered minor injuries, and the infant was uninjured in the accident. Sadly, the Toyota driver succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Officials have identified the decedent as 55-year-old Guillermina Goff of Oakdale. My prayers and sympathy are with the friends and family of Ms. Goff in their time of loss and sorrow.

Accident Investigation

A Modesto intersection auto accident occurred on the morning of January 17 along Sunrise Avenue and East Orangeburg Avenue. The driver of a Jeep Compass was turning left onto southbound Sunrise Avenue. While doing so, the Jeep driver reportedly entered the path of an oncoming Subaru Outback, resulting in an auto accident. The impact of the collision propelled the Subaru into the metal poles of the roof overhang of Sunrise Market. Crews from the Modesto Fire Department responded to the scene to extricate the Subaru driver out of the vehicle. Medical personnel transported three parties, including both drivers and an infant to local hospitals for treatment of unknown injuries. Officials have not yet released an update regarding the conditions of those injured in the crash.

Ceres Major Injury Accident

A Ceres major injury accident occurred on January 3 at the intersection of Service Road and Mitchell Road. The collision occurred shortly after 7:30 in the evening and involved a Nissan Sentra and Honda Accord. The driver of the Honda reportedly fled the scene on foot, leaving the five injured occupants of the Nissan behind. Three of the five injured parties were adults who sustained mild to moderate injuries in the crash. The other two, identified as two young brothers ages 8 and 9, suffered serious injuries. The two children were transported via air ambulance to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment. Fortunately, the two young boys were listed in stable condition the following morning.
