Modesto’s Scott Heller Becomes Oakdale PD Chief
Heller Worked for Modesto & Placerville Police Departments
The city council in Oakdale voted unanimously to approve an employment contract for the new chief, Scott Heller, on Monday evening. Heller worked in Modesto for about 17 years prior to leaving the area to become the police chief for Placerville Police Department.
In his position as Oakdale’s new police chief, Heller will oversee about 22 sworn staff with a budget of roughly $4.9 million.
Scott Heller’s Successful Achievements
During his service in Modesto, Heller was a robbery/homicide sergeant, patrol officer, Assistant Investigative Services Division Commander, Task Force Sergeant for the Stanislaus Drug Enforcement Agency, SWAT sergeant, and commander of the Gang and Narcotics Units.
For four years Heller served in the U.S. Air Force during Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield. After that, Heller earned a BA in political science from Stanislaus State. He went on to earn his master’s degree in emergency services administration from CSU, Long Beach. In 1977, Heller joined the Modesto Police Department.
Swearing-In Reception – November 1
Heller will commence employment with Oakdale on October 28, 2016. The City of Oakdale will hold a public swearing-in reception on November 1, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in the Gene Bianchi Community Center.
Heller is replacing Lester Jenkins, who retired recently after 25 years with the Oakdale Police Department. Mike Harden, former Modesto Police Chief, has served as intermim chief in Oakdale since June.
