Motorcyclist Injured in Highway 99 Hit-and-Run Crash in Ceres
CERES, CA – A motorcyclist injured in Highway 99 hit-and-run crash in Ceres is a 61-year-old Turlock who suffered serious injuries Sunday morning after an SUV slammed into the back of his motorcycle.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 10:50 a.m. Sunday, September 27, north of Service Road on southbound Highway 99.
The motorcyclist was traveling at about 70 mph when the SUV struck his motorcycle from behind. The impact ejected the rider from the bike, leaving him with major injuries.
A Modesto Fire incident summary specifically described one of his injuries as a “severe leg injury.” He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
SUV Driver Leaves After Striking Motorcyclist
The crash took an even more troubling turn after the collision.
The driver of the SUV fled the scene in the vehicle, according to the CHP. Officers are now investigating the incident as a hit-and-run motorcycle accident.
The CHP is asking anyone who witnessed the collision or may have information about the SUV or its driver to contact the CHP Modesto office at 209-545-7440.
Anonymous information can also be provided to Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636.
Why Motorcycle Accidents Can Be So Serious
A motorcycle offers its rider very little protection compared with a passenger vehicle. There is no steel passenger compartment, and a rider can be thrown from the motorcycle when struck from behind or hit the pavement with tremendous force. Motorcycle accidents can result in traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, fractures, severe road rash, internal injuries, and devastating leg injuries—even when the rider is wearing appropriate protective equipment.
Rear-end motorcycle collisions can be particularly dangerous because the rider may have almost no opportunity to brace for the impact. At highway speeds, the force of a collision can be substantial, and being ejected can add another potentially catastrophic part of the crash.
Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Crashes
When a driver leaves the scene after a motorcycle accident, important evidence can disappear quickly. Witnesses may leave, traffic-camera footage may eventually be overwritten, and the damaged vehicle may be difficult to locate.
That makes an early investigation especially important.
In a California motorcycle accident, investigators may need to examine vehicle damage, roadway evidence, photographs, surveillance or traffic-camera footage, witness accounts, and other available evidence to determine how the collision occurred and who may be responsible.
For the injured rider in this Ceres crash, the immediate concern is his recovery. Meanwhile, CHP investigators continue working to identify the SUV and its driver.
A motorcycle crash can happen in seconds.
The consequences can last much longer.

Driver Killed in Tragic Crash With Big Rig Near Highway 99
GALT, CA — According to the California Highway Patrol, a driver was killed after a fiery collision involving a semi-truck south of Twin Cities Road near Highway 99.
CHP reported that in the very early morning hours of Tuesday, September 29, the driver was heading south in the lefthand lane when the motor vehicle hit the rig rig’s back end.
What happened next turned an already serious crash into a devastating chain of events.
After the collision, the vehicle swerved across the other traffic lanes and continued into the right shoulder before finally coming to a stop on a frontage road. Unfortunately, it was in the immediate path of the big rig.
The big-rig driver was unable to stop in time and smashed it the vehicle. The impact made the vehicle catch on fire.
Sadly, the driver was killed in the crash.
Investigators still need to determine what happened before that first impact and what factors may have contributed to the vehicle leaving its lane and traveling across the highway and shoulder.
This remains a developing story, and additional information is expected as the investigation continues.
Why Big Rig Crashes Can Be So Dangerous
Collisions involving commercial trucks can become particularly dangerous because of the tremendous difference in size and weight between a big rig and a passenger vehicle. A fully loaded commercial truck can require significantly more distance to stop, especially when an unexpected vehicle suddenly enters its path. Blind spots, speed, roadway conditions, reaction time, and the position of the vehicles can all become important factors in a truck accident.
This crash also illustrates how a collision doesn’t always end with the first impact. A vehicle can be pushed or thrown into another lane, across a shoulder, or into the path of another vehicle, creating a secondary collision that may have devastating consequences.
In a California big-rig accident, understanding the entire sequence matters—not just the moment when the final impact occurred. Investigators may examine vehicle damage, roadway evidence, witness accounts, surveillance or traffic-camera footage, vehicle speeds, braking, and other evidence to determine how the crash unfolded.
For now, the investigation into this tragic Highway 99 crash remains ongoing.
