Pedestrian Pelvic Injuries

Pedestrian Pelvic Injuries – When people drive a motor vehicle, it is important to always be aware of pedestrians who might be crossing the street or walking along the side of the road. In particular, children may not realize the danger that cars pose as they walk along the side of the road and could step out into traffic unexpectedly. When this happens, serious pedestrian injuries could result, and some of these could even become life-threatening. Some of the statistics on pedestrian safety published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) include:

  • One out of every five children who are killed in traffic accidents happens to be pedestrians.

Paratransit Unfair Fair Increase

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento Pedestrian Accident Lawyer. Recently, decision-makers from Sacramento Regional Transit (RT) debated a proposal with members of the community that would raise the cost of a ride on Light Rail. The same proposal would effectively eliminate the paratransit monthly pass. This is sad news for disabled folks who are on limited incomes and do not have the transit options available to them that other members of the community have. To learn more about the concerns presented by the community:

WATCH: Youtube Video, Sacramento RT proposal to eliminate paratransit pass, by our friends at KCRA3 News. An advocate for the disabled in our community, Genelle Smith, LCSW, gave a heartfelt and compelling reason why paratransit services should remain affordable.

Tibial Plateau Fractures

Ed Smith is a Sacramento Bone Fracture Lawyer. The tibial plateau is the top flat surface of the tibia, which is one of the two long bones in the lower leg. Tibial plateau fractures are more common in the elderly, accounting for 8 percent of all fractures in the elderly population.  There can be fractures of the medial or lateral plateau of the tibia, with lateral tibial plateau fractures being more often isolated fracture when compared to medial plateau fractures.  About 1-3 percent of these fractures are considered open fractures.

The tibial plateau is a joint surface connecting the femur to the lower leg.  There are actually two articular surfaces on this bone with an intercondylar eminence that serves as the attachment of the cruciate ligaments.  The medial plateau is stronger than the lateral plateau, which is why there are more fractures of the lateral plateau.  Medial plateau fractures are more associated with high impact trauma such as with motor vehicle accidents.
