Minor Injuries Reported After Crash in Merced

Authorities reported minor injuries after a car crash in the Merced area on the morning of June 24, 2020. The auto accident occurred on Highway 165 near August Avenue shortly after 10:10 a.m. Two vehicles were involved in a traffic collision; a gray Nissan sedan and a white van. An ambulance was called to the scene to assist those injured in the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Minor injuries were reported. However, the number of parties hurt, and the sequence of events leading up to the accident was not immediately available.

Three Injured After DUI Crash in Merced County

Three parties were injured after a DUI crash in Merced County on Sunday, June 21, 2020. The two-vehicle collision occurred in the area of Eucalyptus Avenue and Shaffer Road, just northeast of Winton, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported. Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 2:30 a.m. They found a driver partially ejected through a front windshield of a Honda Accord, as well as their passenger partially ejected through the front passenger side door. Both parties were trapped inside the Honda. A Dodge Durango, the other vehicle involved in the car accident, was discovered along the northeast side of the intersection on its passenger side. The driver and passenger of the Dodge exited the vehicle on their own and were sitting on the driver’s side of the SUV.

Two Injured After Merced County Motorcycle Accident

Two motorcycle riders were injured and hospitalized after an accident near Snelling, CA, in Merced County on the afternoon of May 31, 2020. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a report of a motorcycle accident involving two riders around 4:25 p.m. on Merced Falls Road, just east of La Grange Road. Five motorcyclists were riding together in the area when turkeys allegedly crossed Merced Falls Road in front of the lead motorcycle rider. This caused the 66-year-old motorcyclist from Stockton to abruptly apply his brakes. The CHP said a 70-year-old Hayward man who was riding behind the lead motorcyclist was not able to stop in time to avoid a collision. This caused both motorcycle riders to be reportedly ejected and lose consciousness as a result of the crash. The Stockton man suffered minor injuries and allegedly was not taken to the hospital. The Hayward man was transported via air ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. No other vehicles or motorcyclists were involved in the accident, according to the CHP.

Three Injured After Merced County Rollover Accident

Three parties, including one child, were injured after an SUV rollover accident in Merced County on the afternoon of May 25, 2020. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was requested at the scene of the car accident at approximately 3:30 p.m. The incident only involved one vehicle and occurred in the area of West Bradbury Road and southbound Highway 99. A 42-year-old Stockton woman was driving a 2004 Dodge Durango SUV southbound on State Route 99 in the No. 1 lane, just north of Delhi, CA. For unknown reasons, the woman lost control of the Dodge by reportedly veering to the right and crossing the No. 2 lane of the roadway. The Dodge continued over the shoulder, traveled across the on-ramp, overturned, and went down an embankment. Both passengers of the vehicle, identified as a 19-year-old Stockton woman and an 11-year-old child, were transported via air ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Dodge was transported by ground ambulance to the hospital for complaints of pain. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no other details have yet been released by officials.

Injuries Reported After Merced Pedestrian Accident

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported minor injuries after a pedestrian accident in the Merced area on May 22, 2020. The auto-pedestrian accident happened shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Golden Rule Avenue and North Winton Way. A green Volkswagen Jetta reportedly crashed into a pedestrian walking in the area, according to the CHP. The pedestrian suffered injuries described as minor. Information, including the sequence of events leading up to the collision and whether the pedestrian was hospitalized for their injuries, was not immediately available.

Woman Killed After Pedestrian Accident in Merced

A Merced woman was killed after a pedestrian accident on Highway 140 near Santa Fe Avenue on April 14, 2020. The incident occurred around 9:50 p.m. when a woman pushing a shopping cart in the area was hit by a 2008 Toyota Scion XD and a 1997 GMC SUV, according to the Merced Police Department. The Toyota was traveling eastbound, and the GMC was headed westbound when each crashed into the woman. Sadly, she was pronounced deceased on site by first responders. Both drivers stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. None of the motorists have been arrested in connection to the fatal auto-pedestrian accident. Further information, including the identity of the decedent, was not immediately available.

One Injured After Farm Accident in Merced

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that one person was injured after an accident involving a farm tractor and a pickup truck in Merced on the morning of April 15, 2020. The farming accident occurred around 7:25 a.m. in the area of Walnut Avenue and Cressey Way. The incident involved a white Toyota Tacoma pickup and a farm tractor, according to the CHP. One party was reportedly propelled into a nearby field and the other into a fence. Riggs Ambulance Service was called to the scene to transport one injured person to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Updates regarding the cause of the crash and the condition of the injured party were not immediately available.

Man Killed After Truck Accident in Merced 

A man was killed, and a woman was injured after a truck accident in a homeless encampment near Merced on the night of April 8, 2020. The incident occurred shortly after 9:40 p.m. on northbound Highway 99 and involved a big rig and a sedan. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) were called to the scene. Upon arrival, responding officers discovered a semi-truck came to a rest in a homeless encampment approximately 40 feet west of the southbound lanes, just north of Childs Avenue.

Highway 99 Closed After Truck Accident in Merced

The no. 1 lane of northbound Highway 99 was closed after a truck accident caused a big rig to jackknife and spill diesel fuel near Merced on April 8, 2020. The incident occurred shortly before 12:20 a.m. along the northbound lanes of State Route 99 near V Street, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported. A 20-year-old Fresno man was driving a 2014 Volvo big rig northbound on SR-99 in the no. 2 lane. The large truck reportedly crashed into the center median guardrail and jackknifed, resulting in a partial blockage of the no. 1 lane. The impact of the collision allegedly punctured the fuel tank of the big rig, causing spillage of approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel. The California Department of Transportation (DOT) was called to the scene to assist with vehicle extraction and repair roughly 150 feet of damaged guardrail. Hazmat crews from Cal Fire responded to the diesel fuel spill and helped with hazardous material cleanup. According to the CHP, the driver claimed to have fallen asleep at the wheel before the truck accident.

One Killed in Highway 152 Accident Near Los Banos

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating an accident on Highway 152 near Los Banos, CA, that left one person killed and two others injured on January 15, 2020. The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. when a westbound Volkswagen Jetta reportedly collided head-on with an eastbound 2009 Freightliner tractor-trailer. The debris from the crash, including the front axle of the Volkswagen, allegedly struck a 2015 Nissan that was headed westbound on the freeway. Authorities said the driver of the big rig, identified as a 59-year-old Los Angeles man, suffered serious injuries to the legs and was transported via air ambulance to a hospital in Modesto. The driver of the Nissan, a 29-year-old Santa Clara man, received treatment for minor injuries. Sadly, the 40-year-old man driving the Volkswagen passed away at the scene. The Merced County Coroner’s Office has identified the decedent as 40-year-old Samuel Balbas of Madera County.
