Two people were injured in a semi-truck crash on Interstate 80 near Alta off-ramp with a passenger vehicle on Sunday morning, July 26, 2026, along westbound Interstate 80 near the Alta off-ramp in Placer County, according to California Highway Patrol dispatch reports.

The collision was reported at approximately 8:27 a.m. and involved a white Volvo semi-truck pulling a white box trailer and a gray sedan.

According to dispatch information, the sedan came to rest in the No. 1 lane, while the semi-truck stopped on the right shoulder. Emergency responders were dispatched after the incident was upgraded to indicate possible injuries, which were later confirmed.

Emergency crews responded to assist those involved as the westbound fast lane remained blocked. Fire personnel temporarily closed all westbound lanes of Interstate 80 while crews worked to safely manage the scene and clear the damaged vehicles.

A heavy-duty tow truck was requested to remove the semi-truck and other damaged vehicles from the roadway.

Authorities reported that two people were injured, although the severity of their injuries has not been released.

Investigation Ongoing

The identities of those involved have not been made public.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the collision, and additional information may be released as the investigation progresses.

Sharing the Road with Commercial Trucks

Large commercial trucks require greater stopping distances and have substantial blind spots that can make collisions more likely if drivers are not attentive. Motorists can improve roadway safety by avoiding lingering alongside trucks, maintaining safe following distances, signaling lane changes early, and allowing trucks adequate space to maneuver.
