Single-Vehicle Rollover Accident Occurs on Bloomfield-Graniteville Road

A rollover accident involving one vehicle that caused a minor injury was reported northeast of Nevada City on June 12. The collision happened along North Bloomfield-Graniteville Road between Cooper Lane and Bush Road around 11:48 a.m. The collision blocked the road when the vehicle flipped, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), and it was found on its side. The three occupants managed to exit the vehicle on their own. The CHP traffic accident unit is carrying out an accident determination.

Rollover Accident Causes

In addition to driver error, single-vehicle rollover collisions can also occur for other reasons, such as the following:

  • Negligent roadway maintenance: Wet or icy roads, potholes, debris in the road and sharp curves in the road all can contribute to an increased risk of a car rolling over. Poorly maintained roads and inadequate signage may cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles and rollover. When inadequate maintenance or poor road design causes a rollover accident, the government entity in charge may be responsible for injuries. There is only six months in which to file a claim, so enlisting the help of an accident attorney may be helpful to meet deadlines.
  • Auto defects: Defective tires have also been known to cause single-vehicle rollovers in extreme circumstances due to sudden blowouts or another tire failure that causes loss of traction. Finally, mechanical malfunctions, such as brake failure, can cause a vehicle to become out of control, leading to a rollover accident. When this occurs, the manufacturer and others may be held responsible by filing an auto product liability claim.
  • Other motorists: A driver doesn’t necessarily have to be involved in a collision with another vehicle to experience a rollover. In some cases, tailgating, aggressive driving, and other factors can cause a vehicle to roll. By examining the evidence of the crash, such as surveillance cameras, this may be determined.

Personal Injury Damages in a Single-Vehicle Accident

In any personal injury claim, the plaintiff must demonstrate that their damages resulted from the defendant’s negligence. A plaintiff in a single-vehicle rollover may be able to recover medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering and other losses sustained in the accident. An injured person needs to contact a car accident attorney as soon as possible following a single-vehicle rollover to determine what legal remedies are available.

A Rollover That Crushes the Roof

Additionally, a vehicle that rolls over can have its roof crushed. In a roof crush, there is less room for those inside to survive, which can result in severe traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord damage. Even though auto manufacturers are obligated to have a roof that can support three times the vehicle’s weight, they sometimes fail to meet that standard. The vehicle can be examined to determine if roof crush occurred, in which case, a product liability claim may be possible against the manufacturer.
