Major Injury Rollover Crash Prompts Extensive Search Near Feather Falls
A rollover crash prompts extensive search near Feather Falls in Butte County after an incident involving multiple occupants resulted in major injuries Sunday evening, June 21, 2026. This involved a large-scale rescue operation and extensive search by emergency responders.
Vehicle Found Down Hillside Near Gold Flake Saloon
The incident was reported at approximately 6:13 p.m. near Lumpkin Road, in front of the Gold Flake Saloon.
Initial reports indicated that five people were involved in a rollover crash. Law enforcement soon learned that the vehicle may have gone over a steep embankment, prompting a coordinated search involving the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, Butte County Fire Department, and other emergency personnel.
Deputies eventually located the crashed vehicle approximately 30 feet down a hillside behind the Gold Flake Saloon.
Two Occupants Trapped Beneath Vehicle
When deputies reached the crash site, they discovered two people trapped beneath the overturned vehicle. One occupant was pulled from underneath the wreckage by a deputy and was reported to be conscious and breathing. Firefighters immediately began rescue efforts to free the second trapped occupant.
Due to the severity of the crash, discussions were held regarding an air ambulance response, although responders later determined no CHP helicopter was available.
Search Conducted for Possible Missing Occupants
Throughout the evening, emergency personnel continued searching for additional occupants after conflicting reports suggested there may have been four or five people inside the vehicle.
A 15-person fire crew conducted a grid search of the surrounding hillside, which later expanded to a 20-person search team that searched the area between the roadway, the crash site, and the Gold Flake Saloon.
Air Unit A21 also conducted repeated aerial searches, confirming there were no fire hazards while assisting ground crews in searching for anyone who may have been ejected or wandered away from the scene.
Vehicle Declared Total Loss
Responders determined the vehicle was a total loss and requested a tow truck capable of accessing the crash site from a road above the hillside.
Authorities also reported that one individual at the scene was uncooperative with investigators, and officials continued working to determine exactly how many occupants had been involved in the rollover.
The incident was upgraded from an injury collision to a major-injury traffic collision as the extent of the injuries became apparent.
Investigation Continues
The circumstances leading to the rollover remain under investigation. Authorities have not released the identities or conditions of those involved, and it remains unclear whether alcohol, speed, or other factors contributed to the crash.
Additional information is expected to be released as investigators continue their review.
Rollover Crashes Often Result in Serious Injuries
Vehicles that leave the roadway and overturn down embankments frequently cause catastrophic injuries due to multiple impacts, roof crush, and occupant ejection. Wearing seat belts, avoiding impaired or distracted driving, and reducing speed on winding rural roads can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury during rollover crashes.
