Two Vehicles Collide Head-On on Mather Boulevard
Early findings from CHP suggest that a gray-colored Hyundai Elantra, traveling on Mather Boulevard, went across the center of the roadway and into the path of northbound traffic.
The Hyundai subsequently struck an oncoming Chevrolet Equinox in a head-on collision. Authorities are examining whether the Hyundai had moved into the opposing lane while attempting to get around another vehicle traveling ahead of it. However, investigators have not determined whether that maneuver contributed to the crash, and the official cause remains under investigation.
A Mather Elementary Student Dies From Injuries
Three people suffered injuries. Two of the injured individuals were initially reported to be in critical condition. One of them was a student, died from injuries sustained in the collision. CHP continues to investigate why the Hyundai crossed into the northbound lane.
Head-On Collision Safety and Passing on Two-Lane Roads
Head-on collisions can result in devastating injuries because vehicles traveling in opposite directions may strike each other with substantial combined force.
Drivers considering passing another vehicle on a two-lane roadway should only do so where legally permitted and when there is sufficient visibility and distance to safely return to their lane. Motorists should also remain alert for double-yellow centerlines and other roadway markings restricting passing.

Why Hiring a Wrongful Death Attorney Can Help
When a collision results in the death of a child or another family member, determining exactly how the crash occurred can be an important part of understanding the family’s legal options. Evidence such as vehicle data, witness accounts, photographs, roadway evidence, and insurance information may help establish responsibility.
A wrongful death attorney can investigate the collision, preserve relevant evidence, evaluate applicable insurance coverage, and help surviving family members understand the damages that may be recoverable under California law.
