Yuba City Fatal Hit-and-Run

I’m Ed Smith, a Yuba City car accident lawyer. On Wednesday, February 15, 2017, a hit-and-run accident involving a bicyclist was reported near Yuba City. Now, law enforcement officers are seeking help from local residents to track down this egregious driver who left this innocent man for dead.

What Happened?

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 77-year old man’s bicycle ride turned deadly near the intersection of East Onstott Road and Pease Road in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The driver who hit the cyclist fled the scene. When officers arrived on scene they discovered the mangled bicycle and the victim of this tragedy.

Fatality Reported

Sadly, the bicyclist had succumbed to his traumatic injuries he sustained from the impact. The identity of the bicyclist is not being released at this time, pending notification of next-of-kin.

Ongoing Investigation

While officers were conducting the initial part of the investigation, they located debris left at the scene from the vehicle that fatally struck the cyclist. It has been determined that the vehicle in question could possibly be a late 1980s model or early 1990s model Chevrolet or GMC pick-up truck or SUV.

Road Closure

A portion of East Onstott Road was closed to through-traffic for a short time while officers stayed at the scene to collect evidence and take photos.

Witnesses Sought

The Yuba-Sutter CHP is asking for any witnesses to the collision to please contact them immediately with any information at (530) 674-5141. They are also asking the public to be on the lookout for the vehicle described above with a broken right-side running light and a broken head light.

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the man who tragically lost his life in this hit-and-run accident.

Hit and Run Accidents

Even if the hit and run driver cannot be located there may still be insurance coverage available through the uninsured motorist or under-insured motorist portion of a policy. If the deceased lived in a home where a family member owned a vehicle, their policy of auto insurance may cover medical expenses and other damages resulting from the accident.
