Traffic Mayhem Following Vacaville Big Rig Collision

I’m Ed Smith, a Vacaville Truck Accident Attorney. Traffic was backed up from Vacaville to Dixon causing a commuter’s  nightmare. All this after two big rigs were involved in a crash with one another.

What Happened?

A big rig crashed along west bound Interstate 80 near Lagoon Valley Road. The collision caused a major delay for morning commuters trying to make their way into the Bay Area.

The California Highway Patrol indicated that one big rig truck was parked on the side of the freeway. Authorities did not state why the big rig was stopped.

Shortly after 4:00 a.m., another big rig came down the highway and side swiped it. The force of the impact was so strong that both rigs were flipped over.

Was the Driver of the First Big Rig Who Pulled Over Sleeping?

No. According to Sgt Steven Lott of the California Highway Patrol the driver stopped momentarily, for reasons unknown. They were not sleeping.

The accident is under investigation. It can take approximately a week or two for the investigating agency to prepare a report of their findings.

The back up stretched as far back as the Midway Road entrance, near Dixon.

The California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) indicated the massive clean up took a lot longer than expected, due to contents inside the second big rig– a scrap metal dump truck — which fell out all over the interstate.

The California Highway Patrol had to shut down west bound Interstate 80’s number 3 and 4 lanes of travel until all the debris could be cleared from the highway.

Truck Drivers and a Passenger Received Only Minor Injuries

The good news is the truck drivers and one passenger sleeping in a berth survived. The crash resulted in minor injuries only. The trucks themselves, however, sustained major property damage.

Trucking Accidents Can Often Cause Major Injuries

A crash between a passenger vehicle and a big rig often results in catastrophic injuries or wrongful death. This is largely due to the substantial difference in size between a big rig and passenger car. Often it is the passenger vehicle occupants who suffer the most devastating injuries. A big rig collision can result in the injured victim being unable to provide for his or herself and/or family members. It can cause loss of enjoyment of the most basic life experiences free of pain. Some of the more catastrophic injuries that may be suffered in a big rig collision include:
