Redding Area Highway Accident Fatally Injures Two

Two people tragically lost their lives after being involved in a Redding area highway accident on Sunday, November 24, 2019. Authorities of California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that the accident happened sometime between the early morning and the previous night. Additionally, no other individuals were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has identified the decedents as 28-year-old Melissa Anne Satterfield and 23-year-old Justin Harley Hoover, both residents of Anderson, CA. CHP has this collision under active investigation.

Crash Information

The accident was reported at about 9:00 a.m. at the junction of Highways 44 and I-5. A driver reportedly called CHP to report a vehicle that had driven off the Highway 44 off-ramp from northbound I-5 headed toward downtown Redding. Officers say that when they arrived at the crash scene, they discovered that a 2009 Dodge Charger was wedged in between two trees on the side of the highway. CHP reported that a 28-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigation

The off-ramp leading from I-5 to Highway 44 was closed to traffic Sunday morning while response was underway, and workers removed the vehicle from the area. The roadway remained closed while officers conducted preliminary investigations of the site in order to find out what factors may have caused the crash. However, CHP has not reported any further information about suspected factors.

When all of the involved parties of a car accident pass away, it can be very difficult for police to get an accurate picture of the events leading up to the collision. In many cases, this means that investigators don’t notice key factors such as malfunctioning vehicle parts, phantom drivers that may have forced the vehicle off the road, or dangerous defects in the pavement. In order to make sure that the accident is investigated with your family’s right to compensation in mind, it’s critical to get in touch with a skilled, experienced Redding wrongful death lawyer. Your lawyer can investigate the crash privately in order to find out if any kind of negligence played a role in the accident.

Phantom Vehicles

In many accidents, a driver is forced into an collision by a second vehicle that never actually makes contact with them. These are referred to as “phantom vehicle accidents,” and, as with hit-and-runs, people are often worried about how they will be able to recover damages when the at-fault party can’t be found. However, in these cases, compensation can often be claimed through “uninsured-underinsured motorist coverage.” This is accomplished by making a claim through your own insurance company. However, this type of coverage isn’t mandatory in California, and the amount that can be paid out varies depending on your policy and the circumstances of the accident. For these reasons, it’s always best to have a Redding wrongful death attorney on your side to make sure that you receive the full amount that you deserve from insurers.

Losing somebody that you love is a tragedy, and many families feel completely overwhelmed by their loss. This is totally normal, and it’s important to take time to grieve. However, negligent parties are quick to act, and having a lawyer right away can make a crucial difference in your case.
