Hit-and-Run Driver Injures Pedestrian on Antelope Road

A pedestrian injury accident in a Sacramento parking lot on May 17 injured a walker when they were struck by a vehicle. The individual who was struck called in the accident themselves from Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael at around 4:00 p.m., according to the incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). They told police the accident happened in a parking lot of a local business along Antelope Road. The CHP is investigating to locate the hit-and-run driver. No additional information was provided on the injuries suffered by the pedestrian.

Parking Lot Accidents

In parking lots, vehicles and pedestrians are in close proximity. If a driver isn’t careful when driving or backing out of a space, they can end up causing a pedestrian injury accident. Pedestrians are always vulnerable around motor vehicles because they lack any of the protection afforded to those inside a car or truck.

Because pedestrian injuries may be severe, they can result in extensive hospitalization and time off work in addition to the pain and suffering. A personal injury attorney can help an injured pedestrian get compensation for their losses, so they can rest and get well knowing that the financial end of their accident is covered.

How We Locate a Hit-and-Run Driver

Our law firm has a good record of locating a hit-and-run driver, and we do this by gathering the evidence needed to identify them. Once the driver is located, their insurance company can be used to pay for a client’s accident injuries. The way we conduct an investigation to locate a fleeing driver includes:

  • Our investigators go to the pedestrian injury accident scene to look for tread marks from the vehicle’s tires, dropped pieces of metal, and paint. These pieces of evidence can narrow down the make and model of the vehicle.
  • They interview the witnesses to the pedestrian injury accident. In some cases, they may be able to describe or identify the car and driver or recall some of the numbers on the license plate.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed, which shows the positioning of the vehicle and pedestrian and can indicate fault.
  • The police report is examined for errors.
  • Traffic surveillance cameras are examined to see if any of them caught the pedestrian injury accident on tape.

Insurance Coverage Can Be Used to Cover Accident Injuries

Those who sign up for auto insurance are offered an uninsured/underinsured policy as an add-on. Many drivers opt to take this add-on policy because of the high number of drivers in the state who are either entirely without auto insurance or are underinsured. This add-on policy can be used to pay for their pedestrian injury accident if they have it. The policy covers not only motorists but will pay for your injuries if you are on foot or riding a bicycle.

If the injured party does not have uninsured/underinsured insurance, but another household member does, that policy can be used to pay for expenses caused by the injury. The policy rate remains unaffected and does not go up if it is used.
