One Killed, Two Severely Injured During Alleged Napa DUI Auto Accident

On Monday, March 15, 2021, one person lost his life, and two more suffered severe injuries as the result of an alleged Napa DUI auto accident. According to Napa County California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision took place on a local highway in the morning and involved two vehicles. The decedent was reportedly a 64-year-old resident of Santa Rosa, but his identity is being withheld by Napa County officials pending family notification.

Crash Details

The collision reportedly happened on Highway 29 to the southeast of the city of Calistoga at around 10:10 a.m. According to CHP traffic reports, a 30-year-old Calistoga resident was driving in a 2015 Subaru while heading south on 29 just past Larkmead Lane. At this time, the Subaru drove over the median and crossed into northbound traffic. In the northbound lane, the Subaru collided head-on with a 1997 Infiniti sedan. Both vehicles sustained severe front-end damage.

Response

Police were contacted regarding the accident directly after it occurred and immediately dispatched response teams. At the scene, responders discovered that the Infiniti driver was critically injured and, sadly, the man was pronounced deceased. The Infiniti’s passenger, a 62-year-old woman from Santa Rosa, was found with major trauma. Medical responders placed her on a helicopter ambulance and had her flown to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for emergency care. Updates on her condition remain unavailable.

The Subaru driver was also found with major injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to the Queen of The Valley Medical Center. At the hospital, CHP officers placed the injured man under arrest on charges of driving under the influence of drugs leading to deadly injuries.

Additionally, police stated that all parties were properly wearing their seat belts and that airbags successfully deployed in both vehicles.

Investigation

Highway 29 was shut down in both directions, and traffic was diverted to Silverado Trail while officials conducted accident response and preliminary accident site investigations. At this time, driving under the influence is the only suspected causal factor that CHP has included in reports. However, accidents frequently involve multiple factors and may have been caused by non-driver factors like defective car parts or dangerous roads.

Calling an Attorney

Losing somebody that you love can be immensely painful, and coping with grief can take a long time. However, at-fault parties usually aren’t struggling with the same emotional trauma and are focused on building a defense against financial and legal responsibility. Sadly, this can prevent families from claiming the payments that they rightly deserve for things like lost income, personal suffering, funeral expenses, and more.

To make sure your family is compensated for these losses, it’s best to contact a Napa car accident lawyer right away. A good lawyer will begin working on your case immediately, letting you know that your case is being handled as effectively as possible and allowing you time to focus on being with your loved ones and coping with your grief.
