Multiple Motor Vehicle Accidents in Novato

I’m Ed Smith, a Novato car accident lawyer. Highway 101 was the scene of two separate accidents in Novato, which hospitalized one person and injured another on March 17, 2017.

What Happened

The first accident occurred where south U.S. Route 101 intersects with westbound Highway 37, and occurred around 5:06 a.m. The one-vehicle accident resulted in moderate injuries to one person.

Another Accident Less than 20 Minutes Later

The second accident, which occurred at 5:24 a.m. close to the Marin-Sonoma county line on U.S. Route 101, involved a vehicle hitting a rail located in a construction area. One person suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The accident caused both lanes of Highway 101 to be blocked. The lanes reopened before 7:00 a.m., but morning traffic going to Marin remained slow.

Most Dangerous Highways

According to Conde Nast, U.S. Route 101 in California was rated as number 14 out of the most dangerous 15 highways in the country in 2016. Interstate 10, which runs from Santa Monica to the Arizona border, ranked as the most dangerous. However, I-10 runs through eight states for a distance of about 2,460 miles. The deadliest days to drive on these highways are over the holidays of Independence Day, New Year’s Day and Labor Day. More than 100 traffic fatalities occur nationwide on these holidays. August 2 and August 27 have also proved to be among the most dangerous days to drive, with an average 0f 108 deaths over the past five years.

Fault in a Construction Zone Accident

Construction zones are dangerous for drivers and workers. Some motorists disregard the signs and markers intended to promote safety. Alternatively, work zones can often be haphazardly marked, resulting in accidents. The most common type of accident in work zones involves rear-end collisions, often due to driver distraction. Other accidents involve collisions with warning equipment and rails as well as sideswiping other vehicles.

Negligence Found in Construction Zones

If a construction company employee failed to adequately mark or direct traffic properly, the company may be liable for injuries suffered in a resulting accident. A motorist might also be held responsible for speeding through a construction zone or not paying attention to slowing vehicles ahead.
