Motorcyclist Hits Pedestrian in Oakley

I’m Ed Smith, an Oakley Pedestrian Accident Lawyer. During the early evening of Tuesday, October 31, 2017, a motorcyclist struck a pedestrian and then fled the scene. For more details regarding this event, look below.

Hit-and-Run Details

On Tuesday night, a female walking with her bicycle across a dimly lit stretch of Main Street in Oakley was struck by a motorcycle. The accident was initially called in at roughly 8:40 p.m. and responders arrived to the intersection of Main Street and Bridgehead Road, where the hit-and-run allegedly took place. After responders were unable to find any concrete evidence of an accident, the call was cancelled. Just moments later, the injured pedestrian was located a half-mile east of the location where responders had been earlier. Responders were re-called to the scene.

Captain of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ECCFPD) Craig Gjerman spoke on behalf of the victim, reporting that she said she looked both ways before walking across the four-lane road. The pedestrian then proceeded to cross since she did not notice any oncoming traffic. Before the pedestrian was able to complete her cross, she reported seeing a single motorcycle headlight and was hit.

Pedestrian Wounds

Upon impact, the pedestrian went flying into the pavement. She suffered from a hematoma, a laceration, and some relatively minor scratches and bruises. An ambulance transferred her over to Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch to receive treatment for her injuries.

The Oakley Police Department responded to the hit-and-run, along with an AMR ambulance and the ECCFPD crew.

The motorcyclist was also knocked off their motorcycle and fell to the ground. He reportedly got back up and then fled the scene.

This accident is still currently under investigation.

Can a Pedestrian be Covered by Insurance in a Hit-and-Run?

When a motor vehicle strikes a pedestrian in a hit-and-run case, the pedestrian has a surprisingly likely chance of being covered through uninsured motorist insurance. Typically, as long as the pedestrian already has uninsured motorist insurance, they will normally be covered. In addition, if someone else that lives in the pedestrian’s household has uninsured motorist insurance, this is also likely to be sufficient in covering the pedestrian.
