Most Dangerous Auburn Intersections

Auburn is a small city with a relaxed atmosphere and beautiful scenery. However, this historic town of just around 13,000 residents is also right on one of the country’s biggest highways and serves as the seat of the government of Placer County. These factors mean that there is sometimes a high volume of both local and commuter traffic in Auburn. Unfortunately, where traffic goes accidents can always happen. With any city, there are particular areas that tend to see more accidents than others. By learning about what areas are most affected by collisions in their city, Auburn residents can improve their safety when driving on local roads.

Intersections Ranked

In any city, the areas with the most accidents tend to be intersections. The below list contains the intersections that saw the highest number of accidents between 2008 and 2018. The data for this list is taken from UC Berkeley research and reflects an area of 250 feet around the location of the intersection. Intersections are listed in order of most to least accidents during the time period in question.

  • Grass Valley Highway at Elm and Fulweiler Avenues
  • SR 49 at Elm Avenue
  • Palm Avenue at Grass Valley Highway
  • Sterling and Fulweiler Avenues
  • El Dorado Street at Lincoln and Borland Avenue
  • High Street at Elm Avenue
  • High Street at Auburn Folsom Road and Sacramento Street
  • High Street at Auburn Folsom Road
  • High Street at Hale Street

What Makes Intersections Dangerous?

Many people understand intuitively that intersections can be dangerous for drivers and pedestrians alike. One main reason that collisions tend to happen at intersections is simply that traffic is multiplied by two or more directions. Drivers need to be even more aware and pay close attention to traffic coming from all sides. This means more opportunities for motorists to make a reckless mistake.

However, certain intersections are dangerous for particular reasons. Some of the reasons that specific intersections can be dangerous include:

  • Poor Visibility – Many intersections are dangerous because it is difficult to see oncoming traffic, important signage, traffic lights, or obstacles in the road. Sometimes, these things are difficult to see because of obstacles like overpasses, statues, or trees. In other cases, it may be a case of poor roadway design or lack of adequate lighting.
  • High Traffic – The more vehicles, the more chances there are for accidents. Busy intersections can be dangerous for bicyclists, motorists, pedestrians, and all other roadway users because traffic is often hectic and can be confusing.
  • No-Left-Turn Lanes – Drivers making a left turn are particularly likely to be involved in a crash. This is because drivers need to make quick judgments when making left turns. These judgments can lead to split-second mistakes that cause accidents. Intersections with protected left turns and dedicated turn lanes reduce the dangers of this issue.

Being Injured in a Crash

In any accident, there is the risk of suffering a severe injury. When this happens, people often face a long road to recovery as well as some serious financial issues related to their injury. For instance, someone with a broken leg may need to pay for surgery in order to regain mobility and also may not be able to work if they can no longer walk around freely. These issues can seem dire, but there are ways for accident survivors to claim payments for their losses. If you want to know more about claiming payments for your injury, contact a local Auburn personal injury lawyer to talk about your case.
