Harley-Davidson, the iconic motorcycle manufacturer, is looking toward the future with its new electric LiveWire. With an aging population of bikers, the company is looking to attract younger riders as well as older ones with this innovative speed machine. Much lighter weight than a traditional Harley and with a more limited range, it may not be the best machine for a trip across the country. However, for those who enjoy the sensation of a fast vehicle with a top speed of 110 mph and are looking toward a sustainable way to travel, this fits the bill.

Range and Recharging the Battery

With a range of about 146 miles, fewer at high speeds, and easy to charge, it might be just the thing for those who want the motorcycle experience in an entirely new way. Harley even sweetened the deal by offering free charging for the first 500-kilowatt-hours at Electrify America. That’s probably enough to get free charges for about two years or about 4,000 miles. It can also be charged using a regular household current.

Price and Availability

The LiveWire is expected to start appearing in Harley showrooms in September at select dealerships. The only thing about the LiveWire that might slow down buyers is the hefty price tag. The bike is expected to cost around $30,000, which might be daunting for some. Pre-orders for the LiveWire are already being taken.

LiveWire: Additional Details

While the LiveWire differs substantially from the ageless “Hog,” those who have test driven it say it is fun to drive. The marketing will appeal to those who can pay the $30,000 and up price tag. One difference between the LiveWire and its predecessors is the noise it makes. Instead of the usual motorcycle sound, the LiveWire lets out a high-pitched one that is definitely futuristic. This might be problematic since motorists already complain that motorcycles are not easily visible. Without the loud roar of a motorcycle, motorists may be even more unaware of their presence.

What an Injury Lawyer Can Do For You

As with any accident, an investigation is key to winning a case. Our investigators will examine the accident scene, review police records, and talk to witnesses who saw the crash happen. On occasion, police and insurance company reports may contain errors that can damage your case. If the accident happened in an area where businesses are located, it is important to see if storefront videos captured the crash. Likewise, traffic cameras are also helpful, as are eyewitness videos. Once we have gathered all necessary information, we prepare a strong case for the plaintiff. This information is presented to the insurance company. However, if negotiations to obtain a fair settlement fall through, our legal team will take the case to civil court.

Speed in Motorcycle Accidents

While the LiveWire is a speed demon, adding to its allure, driving at a higher speed can lead to horrific accidents with serious injuries. Motorcycles overall are less crashworthy than cars. There are many reasons motorcycle accidents happen. Hitting soft dirt, leaves, or a pothole at a high speed can throw a biker off their motorcycle. This often leads to serious injury and death. However, the average speed a motorcycle is traveling at the time of an accident is 20.1 mph. This means there are many other reasons such crashes occur.

Reasons for Motorcycle Accidents

The highest number of motorcycle accidents occur when a biker is trying to make a left-hand turn. In this case, the biker’s speed is usually not a factor. Instead, it is due to a motorist that fails to look for or see the motorcycle in an intersection. Since motorists are obligated to look for other vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists when they are driving, the blame can rest with them. A motorcyclist should be able to take to the road without fear that someone will not know they are there. Many bikers use flags and clothes that spotlight their presence.
