Head-On Collision at Intersection in Cameron Park

A two-vehicle head-on collision happened in Cameron Park on December 20 at about 1:11 p.m. The crash of a white pickup and a gold Mercedes MLK occurred at the intersection of Cameron Park Drive and Alhambra Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the vehicles were moved to the right side of the road. The reason for the crash has yet to be reported, and it is unclear if injuries resulted from this collision in the vicinity of Placerville. The CHP will be investigating the head-on collision, and as of this time, there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.

Head-On Collisions in a Two-Vehicle Crash

Head-on collisions are rare when compared to other types of accidents, yet when they happen, serious injuries or fatalities can result. This is due to the momentum involved in the collision since the impact is the result of the speed and weight of both vehicles. The Institute for Highway Safety stresses that a fatality rate of 58 percent is associated with a head-on collision.

The incidence of head-on crashes is highest in rural areas. This is most likely due to the presence of two-lane roads and the lesser degree of police surveillance as opposed to cities.

Reasons for a Head-On Collision

There are multiple causes of head-on collisions. Some of the most common are:

  • Fatigued driving: In today’s economic reality, drivers may be working several jobs and are exhausted. This leads to fatigued driving as they travel from one job to another. Fatigued driving is dangerous and leads to many serious accidents. Closing your eyes for five seconds at highway speeds means your vehicle can travel the length of a football field with no one in charge.
  • Distracted driving: In today’s multitasking world, doing several things at the same time is routine. However, doing that while driving can lead to a head-on collision. It’s easy to gravitate into an oncoming lane when your hands are off the wheel, and your attention is focused on sending a text message.
  • Inebriated drivers: Drunk drivers are often involved in a head-on collision. That is because they frequently lose vehicle control and lack functional reflexes to move back into their own lane. Some drunk drivers are confused and are unable to tell if they are in the correct lane.

How an Accident Attorney Can Help

If you are injured or a family member is killed in a head-on collision, you have the right to file a claim against a negligent or reckless driver. The investigative and legal teams at AutoAccident.com are there to help you with that. We focus on protecting our clients’ rights and work hard to ensure they receive the compensation they deserve.

Our investigators are dispatched to the scene of the accident to gather evidence of negligence and determine who was at fault for the crash. We use accident reconstruction techniques to determine liability, interview bystanders, and catalog all evidence, including video from surveillance cameras and those taken by witnesses to the crash. This data is then handed over to our injury lawyers who use it to build a successful claim against the at-fault party.
