Fatality Reported in Suspected DUI Crash in Fresno

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported a fatality after a suspected DUI crash in Fresno during the early morning of Saturday, January 2, 2021. The Fresno car accident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Highway 168 near the Shields Avenue off-ramp. A 31-year-old man was driving a 1997 Volvo westbound on State Route 168 with a passenger, CHP traffic officers reported. For unknown reasons, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing the car to overturn several times. The driver was hospitalized for unspecified serious injuries and later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). Sadly, the passenger succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified the passenger as 30-year-old Andres Romero of Fresno.

Loss of a Loved One in a Fresno Suspected DUI Crash

When the loss of a family member in a fatal car accident is the result of someone else’s negligence, specific survivors may be entitled to compensatory damages for the challenges they are facing now and expected to encounter in the future. While legal action may not be the first thing that may come to mind for surviving family members in these difficult times, it is essential for grieving families to understand that they only have two years to bring a wrongful death lawsuit in California. If a case is not brought within the two-year statute of limitations, survivors may run the risk of the court dismissing the case and the loss of the legal right to seek justice and compensation for their loss.
