Fairfield Two-Vehicle Crash Injures Two

Accident on Highway 12 Injures Two People

A two-vehicle crash in Fairfield on June 1 resulted in two people being taken to a hospital for treatment of their minor to moderate injuries. The accident happened around 9:00 p.m. along Highway 12, according to a representative of the Fairfield Fire Department. One of the vehicles involved in the crash ended up on its side. The driver of the other vehicle had to be extricated by firefighters. No additional information was provided. The collision is under investigation to see how it happened and assign fault.

Two-Vehicle Crash Causes

Almost all traffic accidents are caused by negligence, including a two-vehicle crash. Some of the more common causes of these types of accidents are:

  • Distracted driving is the most common cause of a two-vehicle accident, as well as those involving multiple vehicles. Cell phone users, text messages, GPS searchers and other distracted motorists are not focused on the task of driving. It only takes a few seconds for their focus and eyes to drift off the road when they send a text message. Although it isn’t much, it is still enough to enable the vehicle to move forward the length of a football field.
  • The number of accidents caused by drunk drivers is high, including collisions between two vehicles. When a driver shows poor judgment, reflexes and tracking issues, he is more than capable of causing a crash.
  • Around a quarter of accidents involve rear-end collisions. The driver may think it will save them time to follow closely, but at best, they will save a few seconds.
  • A lack of sleep and fatigue at the wheel have been found to be as dangerous as intoxication. Some drivers cannot detect the signs of being too tired to drive, and they drift out of their lane or fall asleep, causing a two-vehicle crash.
  • It is common for a two-vehicle crash to occur when drivers turn right while traffic is blocked on the left. It may happen that a driver wants to turn right at an intersection, but a larger car blocks his view. However, making that turn anyway puts you at risk of being hit from the left by a vehicle with the right of way.
  • Oncoming traffic must be checked before making a turn. In areas where it is legal to go right on red or where there are no turn arrows, there is a high possibility of two vehicles colliding because the driver failed to check for traffic in all directions.
  • A two-vehicle crash is also frequently caused by running a red light. A driver who does this expects to not cross paths with another vehicle, but it happens frequently, resulting in a two-vehicle accident.
