Two Accidents Between Mather Field and Bradshaw Roads Result in Critical Injuries

Two accidents involving critical injuries occurred along westbound Highway 50 in Sacramento during the early hours of March 6. The accidents happened between Mather Field Road and Bradshaw Road at around 12:30 in the morning, according to reports by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). In the first accident, a vehicle collided with the center divider, and while that incident was being investigated, another occurred. In the second collision, one vehicle ended up on the shoulder of the road in the grass and the other was on the exit ramp. Four people were reported as critically injured and taken by emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department to area hospitals. Two others suffered minor injuries. Several lanes along Highway 50 remained closed for a time while the accident site was cleared, and investigations were conducted into the causes.

Traffic Accidents and Compensation

When an accident resulting in critical injuries is caused by a negligent driver or other entity, the injured person can place a compensation claim. Some of the areas that are covered under personal injury law include:

  • Medical expenses, including hospitalization, physician bills, prescriptions, rehabilitation, or therapy, can be claimed for critical injuries or less serious harm. Out of pocket expenses are covered also, which can include trips to and from the doctor, gas mileage, ambulance service, private nurses, and others.
  • Lost income can include your salary, bonuses, and the value of other perks of your employment. If the person cannot return to their previous job, the cost of retraining or loss of income in the future is recoverable.
  • Household help and medical devices are covered. If the injured person requires care at home, household help such as a visiting nurse or attendant is covered. Medical devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, handicapped vehicles, and prostheses are included also.
  • Future expenses, such as long-term care and treatments are recoverable.
  • Lost organs or limbs are areas that can be devastating to a person’s life. If the injured person lost a limb or organ, that is financially reimbursable.
  • Scarring or disfigurement following critical injuries can affect a person physically, emotionally, and psychologically and is reimbursable.
  • Pain and suffering are noneconomic damages, but the injured person can place a claim for financial compensation for those losses. This category can include loss of consortium, lack of enjoyment of life because the person can no longer enjoy the things they did before and anxiety.
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder occurs in some people following an accident injury. They suffer from sleeplessness, nightmares, reliving the accident and may be afraid to leave their home or ride in a vehicle. This area can only be claimed if the sufferer sought professional help to deal with their problem.

How an Experienced Personal Injury Lawyer Helps

Obtaining compensation for an accident injury caused by another’s negligence requires proof of what caused the collision. This is where an experienced personal injury lawyer comes in. Our investigators go to the accident location to gather evidence right away. They talk to witnesses and look over the police report for errors. The investigators use accident reconstruction and look for videos at local traffic surveillance cameras and businesses that might have caught it. When the evidence has all been gathered, our lawyers go to work to build a strong case in favor of our client. This information is used either when we negotiate for you with the insurance company or prepare a court case if the insurer refuses to give you what you deserve.
