CHP Offers Teen Drivers Safety Course

On Wednesday, November 9, 2016, a student driver safety class for teenage drivers and their parents or guardians will be presented by the California Highway Patrol.

Introducing the Start Smart Program

The program called Start Smart targets prospective and newly licensed teenage drivers (between the ages of 15 to 19) as well as their parents or their guardians. The class is designed to go over driver responsibility, collision avoidance techniques, distracted driving laws, alcohol-related driving laws, collision trends and the provisional licensing process. The program includes classroom discussion and videos. Teens and their parents or guardians will have an opportunity to ask questions of the CHP officers who will be in attendance.

When and Where is the Class?

The class will take place at 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Sacramento Association of Realtors facility located at 2003 Howe Avenue, Sacramento. The office is located in Arden Arcade vicinity. The building can be accessed on the west side of Howe Avenue, between Wyda and Cottage ways.

How Do I Register?

To register for the Start Smart class, email CHP Officer Chad Hertzell at: [email protected]. Please include the first and last name of each teenage participant. This is the only way they will be presented with an official certificate of completion. The certificate will be awared to the teenage driver at the end of the November 9 class. Parents and guardians are requested to attend the class with their teenage drivers.

Funding for this amazing CHP Start Smart program is provided by a generous grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety by way of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
