Brentwood Driver Crashed After Suffering Heart Attack

On Thursday morning, January 25, 2018, a Brentwood resident suffered from a fatal heart attack while driving in Antioch, causing a car wreck that involved two other vehicles. Unfortunately, the Brentwood citizen was pronounced dead at the site of the incident.

My sincerest condolences are extended to the family and friends of Amiel Pagsuyuin, the deceased individual.

Early Morning Accident on Deer Valley Road

According to reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the three-car wreck was called in shortly after 6:45 a.m. The East Contra Costa County Fire Protection District sent ambulances and engines to the traffic collision which was located on Deer Valley Road, northward of Empire Mine Road.

CHP officials state that there was a Honda Civic moving north across Deer Valley Road, and the Civic slowly began crossing the two solid yellow lines. The driver of the Civic was suffering from a heart attack. The Civic collided with an approaching Honda Accord and then spun out of control before hitting a nearby Toyota Camry. Three people came out of this car crash with injuries, one of which was deemed to be fatal.

The Honda Civic owner has been identified as a 38-year old Brentwood resident, named Amiel Pagsuyuin. He was found in cardiac arrest before passing away at the scene. The Honda Accord driver was hospitalized for injuries following the accident, and the Camry driver received medical treatment for minor injuries.

Following this tragic event, there was a temporary road closure on Deer Valley Road extending from the Kaiser Antioch Medical Center to Balfour Road.

Remembering Amiel Pagsuyuin

Pagsuyuin was an active member of his local community, and he was a family man at heart. He was an operating room technician at Kaiser Antioch Medical Center, where he met his wife. In addition to being a loving father and a hopeless romantic, Pagsuyuin’s wife describes him as a happy-go-lucky man that was always smiling.

In his spare time, Pagsuyuin would DJ, take a ride around town on his beloved motorcycle, and add to his collection of Air Jordans. He is leaving behind a beautiful family of three children,  two girls ages 10 months and 4 years, and a stepson who is 11 years old.

Pagsuyuin was cherished among his staff. Coworkers and friends have collectively created an online fundraiser to support the Pagsuyuin family in this time of unspeakable grief.
