Three Injured in Brentwood Car Accident

On Friday, August 24, 2018, a two-vehicle rollover accident in Brentwood injured two adults and one infant passenger. Officials from the Brentwood Police Department (BPD) stated that the collision occurred at an intersection between two major roadways. The severity of the injured car occupants has not been publicly disclosed, but the two adults and infants were all transported to a nearby medical center for treatment. The cause of the accident is unknown and is currently under investigation by BPD.

Collision Details

The accident happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. at Claremont Drive and Balfour Road. According to Sergeant Misquez of BPD, the accident involved a silver Dodge Durango and a gray Hyundai Elantra. The Dodge vehicle was being driven by an adult female with an infant passenger at the time, whereas the sole occupant of the Hyundai was a male driver. The Dodge was moving southwards along Minnesota Avenue approaching Claremont Drive, and the Hyundai was heading east on Balfour Road when the two vehicles collided at the intersection.

The Dodge Durango rolled over from what appeared to be due to the impact of the collision. Before the vehicle rested, it flattened a traffic sign and tore portions of landscaping from the central reservation on Claremont Drive. The car ended upright on its tires, facing north in the southbound lane. The gray Hyundai sustained major damage around the front portion of the vehicle.

Emergency Response

Everyone involved was transferred via ambulance to the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Antioch. A medical helicopter was initially requested at the scene, but emergency responders determined it would not be necessary and canceled the request. Misquez stated that the baby was properly secured in a car seat and appeared alert and conscious following the collision. The full extent of the two adult driver’s injuries has not been reported, although Battalion Chief Jake Gonzalez of East Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ECCFPD) said that none of the victims required a trauma activation.
