STOCKTON, CA — In Stockton, a bicyclist and the cyclist’s two dogs lost their lives in a tragic hit-and-run crash Saturday morning, June 27. According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded at approximately 10:18 a.m. to accounts of a person lying on Eight Mile Road close to Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park. Heartbreakingly, the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said the bicyclist had been traveling westbound with a shopping cart attached to the bicycle and was accompanied by two dogs. Authorities believe the bicyclist was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. Sadly, both dogs were also killed in the crash.
The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner assessed the victim may have been deceased for four to 12 hours before officers arrived.
The CHP is searching for a light gray or silver Ford SUV or truck that may have significant damage to its right front. Investigators believe the SUV/truck may have last been seen in the area of Spanos Park West and Scott’s Creek Drive.
At this time, investigators have not determined whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the collision.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact the CHP Stockton office at (209) 938-4800.

MODESTO, CA – A suspected speeding driver was killed in a three-vehicle crash near Modesto on Saturday night, June 27, that also claimed the life of a passenger and left several others injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision happened around 9:30 p.m. on Ladd Road close to Tully Road. Investigators said a green 2026 Porsche coupe was moving west when it crashed into the rear end of a Ram pickup truck.
The impact caused the pickup truck to leave the roadway and overturn. Authorities said the Porsche continued westbound after the initial collision before crossing into the opposite lane and crashing head-on with an eastward-moving Mercedes SUV.
After the second collision, the Porsche came to a stop in the roadway and then caught fire. The CHP said the driver, a 57-year-old man from Modesto, tragically died at the scene.
A passenger in the Porsche, identified as 38-year-old Jon Burgess of Manteca, suffered critical injuries and was taken to a hospital. On Monday, the CHP confirmed that Burgess died from his injuries on Sunday.
The driver of the Ram pickup truck, age 27, sustained minor injuries. According to the CHP, the truck’s five passengers — a 14-year-old girl, a 42-year-old woman, a 16-year-old girl, a 26-year-old woman, and a 2-year-old girl — were left uninjured or with only minor injuries.
The occupants of the Mercedes SUV, identified as 52-year-old Diana Ybarra and 53-year-old Manuel Ybarra, both of Oakdale, sustained serious injuries and were transported for medical treatment.
CHP investigators believe alcohol may have played a role in the crash. Authorities also noted that everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt and was properly restrained at the time of the collision.

LODI, CA – Two people lost their lives Friday night, June 26, after a sedan crashed and flipped over in Lodi, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision happened at approximately 11:26 p.m. on north-bound Highway 99, just south of the Victor Road interchange near the Pine Street overcrossing.
Investigators said a sedan was traveling in the No. 1 lane at an unknown speed when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the driver made an unsafe turn to the left and collided with the concrete center divider.
Following the initial impact, the vehicle continued north before overturning. During the crash, the passenger sitting in the front was expelled from the vehicle, while the driver was partially pushed through the windshield, according to the CHP.
The sedan eventually came to rest on top of a metal guardrail.
Both occupants were taken to a nearby hospital, where, tragically, they later died from their injuries.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims.
Investigators said it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. The collision is still under investigation.
