STOCKTON, CA – A frightening incident unfolded in Stockton on Tuesday evening, June 9, when a vehicle crashed into a building where a children’s dance class was taking place, leaving two young children injured.
According to the Stockton office of the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision occurred around 6:30 p.m. close to Grider Way and Lower Sacramento Road. Officials said a woman driving the vehicle failed to navigate a turn and accidentally crashed into the building.
Two children, both 9 years old, were hurt by debris resulting from the crash and were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
At the time of the incident, a dance class was in session inside the building. Fortunately, CHP officials said all of the children participating in the class were on the opposite side of the building when the vehicle crashed through, helping to prevent more serious injuries.
Investigators determined that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the crash.

MODESTO, CA – A Modesto neighborhood is mourning a heartbreaking loss after a police pursuit ended in a devastating crash early Tuesday morning, June 9, claiming the life of a house-sitter who was staying at the residence when a vehicle slammed into the home.
The collision occurred near Tuxford Lane and Robin Hood Drive. Officers with California Highway Patrol reported the driver was suspected of underage drinking attempted to evade law enforcement.
According to CHP, the pursuit began around 1:20 a.m. when officers observed a gray sedan speeding along Standiford Avenue. Investigators said the driver, identified as 20-year-old Zacharia Knoble of Modesto, ran several red lights before losing control of the vehicle. The sedan crashed through large protective boulders and struck a home on Tuxford Lane.
The impact caused the vehicle to burst into flames, leaving a large hole in what appeared to be a bedroom wall.
The damage was so severe that fire officials initially believed two people had died in the crash. However, the coroner’s office later confirmed that one person inside the home was killed.
The homeowners, who were reportedly traveling in South Dakota at the time, said they received the devastating news while away. They shared that the victim was a cherished family friend who had been house-sitting for them.
CHP said the driver was able to walk away from the crash without injuries and was taken into custody. Investigators determined he was under the influence of alcohol and conducted a DUI investigation. Although he reported no injuries, CHP personnel transported him to a hospital for evaluation before he was medically cleared and booked into the county jail on multiple felony charges.
An 18-year-old female passenger was also in the vehicle. She suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization and was released to her mother at the scene.
For neighbors, the tragedy has been difficult to process. The burned outline of the vehicle remained at the crash site, and inside the heavily damaged bedroom, a bed and pillow could still be seen among the debris—a stark reminder of the loss suffered by the family and community.
The investigation remains ongoing.
