Carmichael Woman Dies in Fair Oaks Boulevard Accident
A traffic fatality was reported in Carmichael on September 27 that took the life of a young woman. The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on eastbound Fair Oaks Boulevard, when the driver of a sedan rear-ended a Chevy Silverado pickup and the center median. At that point, the vehicle rolled, slid on its roof, and struck another car. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) report, a 21-year-old Carmichael woman died in the crash.
Cause of Traffic Fatality Accident Under Investigation
Police discovered a car seat in the vehicle, but fortunately, the infant was not a passenger at the time the crash occurred but was safely at home. The identity of the young woman who died in the accident has not been released pending notification of the family by the County Coroner’s Office. The CHP is investigating the traffic fatality accident to determine how it happened.

- Mechanical failure: When a defective part in the accelerator, brakes, steering column, or motor is present, it can end up causing a traffic fatality. Defects can cause the accelerator to stick, the brakes to not work, steering to freeze, and other problems that prevent the driver from controlling the vehicle. This is one of the reasons it is important to retain a vehicle following a traffic fatality, so engineers can check to see if a defect in the car caused the accident. If this is found to be so, an auto product liability claim can be filed against the manufacturer and others in the production line to recover damages.
- Government negligence: When lights at intersections are mistimed or malfunction, lighting is poor, or signs are covered by shrubs or tree branches, it can cause a traffic fatality or accident with serious injuries. When it has been determined by an investigation that negligent maintenance or poor design of a roadway caused a traffic fatality, a claim may be placed against the government entity in charge.
