Vacaville Motorcycle Collision

I’m Ed Smith, a Vacaville accident lawyer. On Friday, July 14, 2017, a motorcycle accident in Vacaville left an individual with serious traumatic injuries. You can learn more information about this injury accident in the below blog article.

Accident Details

According to official reports released by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident occurred at around 2:20 p.m. on Highway Interstate 80 a short distance west of exit for Leisure Town Road.

Witnesses told reporters that a driver of a motorcycle had been weaving in and out of the eastbound lanes of the freeway before it was struck by a passing vehicle. CHP indicated that the vehicle that struck the motorcyclist was a dark-colored Honda Accord with an attached wheelchair on its rear-end.

Ejection

Reportedly, the motorcyclist was ejected from their vehicle after being struck and both the motorcyclist and the motorcycle traveled across the freeway before landing in the right-hand shoulder.

Response and Injury

After receiving reports that someone may have been seriously injured, CHP sent emergency medical personnel to the site of the collision. Medical officials indicated that the injured motorcyclist was initially able to stand up, but had serious traumatic injuries. Responders called for an ambulance to take the man to a hospital for medical treatment.

The specific nature of the motorcyclist’s injuries were not reported. Additionally, none of the occupants of the Honda were reported to have sustained injuries in the accident.

Motorcycle Accidents in Vacaville

According to data compiled by researchers at UC Berkeley, there has been a total of 112 reported injury-causing motorcycle accidents in Vacaville from 2011-2016. Of these 112 accidents, eight were fatal, 16 involved severe injuries, 58 involved visible injuries, and 30 involved complaints of pain.

More than half of Vacaville’s fatal motorcycle accidents were caused by drivers under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or both. In contrast, only 11 of the additional 104 crashes that caused injuries involved alcohol, making fatal motorcycle accidents roughly 40 percent more likely to involve alcohol than less severe accidents.

Dangerous Roadways

The road in Vacaville on which people are most often injured in motorcycle accidents is, by far, Interstate 80. However, only one of the fatal motorcycle collisions in Vacaville since 2011 occurred on the city’s central freeway. At that, the collision occurred on an entrance ramp to State Highway 505.

Most of Vacaville’s fatal motorcycle accidents happen on the southeast side of the city, especially near the intersection of Ulatis Drive and Nut Tree Road. Other roads in the city that have a high frequency of injury-causing motorcycle collisions include Peabody Road and Elmira/Mason Street.
