Two-Vehicle Injury Crash Occurs at North Highlands Intersection

Intersection Accident Between Two Vehicles Causes Minor Injury

A two-vehicle injury accident occurred in North Highlands on October 11 at a local intersection. The collision happened around 4:31 p.m. at the intersection of Elkhorn Boulevard and Cantel Way, which blocked the roadway, according to the incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). A tow truck was required to remove one of the vehicles, a Dodge van.

Intersection Accident Investigated as to Cause

Upon the arrival of medics with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, one party was transported to a hospital for precautionary medical reasons for a minor injury and further evaluation. The accident is being investigated to find out which driver was at fault and how the two-vehicle crash occurred.

Why Is an Intersection Injury Crash so Common?

Anytime there are vehicles, bicycle riders, and pedestrians converging in the same location, accidents are bound to happen. Intersections are mostly designed for those in passenger vehicles, and pedestrian/bicycle crossings are added as an afterthought, which increases the danger to everyone. However, an injury crash involving two vehicles can occur for the following reasons:

  • Rear-end collisions: A rear-end collision is probably the most common cause of an injury crash involving two vehicles at an intersection. The driver coming up from behind is commonly distracted, tailgating, intoxicated, or another type of negligence. By the time they notice they are about to collide with a vehicle stopped at the light or inside the intersection, it’s too late.
  • Making an improper left turn: One reason for an intersection injury crash is when a driver makes a left turn even though the red arrow has popped up. This is a form of running a red light. Because traffic has already started passing through the intersection, it can cause a head-on or T-bone collision.
  • Non-functioning brake lights: When a vehicle’s brake lights aren’t working, the driver behind can’t tell whether the driver is slowing down or coming to a stop. This can lead to an injury crash.
  • Speeding: When a driver is speeding, they have less control over their vehicle and need a longer stopping distance in an emergency situation, which can cause an injury crash.
  • Drunk or drugged driving: Drivers who are intoxicated from using alcohol or drugs cannot drive safely, and one of their problems is they cannot judge their distance from another vehicle.

Investigation of an Injury Crash

An injury attorney supports your claim for compensation against a negligent driver by collecting evidence. Our investigators go to the scene of the injury accident to do that and use techniques such as the following to support a client’s injury claim:

  • Witnesses of the injury crash are interviewed, and the police report is examined to ensure it is error-free.
  • Area traffic cameras are checked to see if the accident was captured on film. If it was, that video record can be subpoenaed to support the client’s claim.
  • The investigators perform accident reconstruction. This type of evidence indicates the positioning of the vehicles before the collision happened, where they impacted each other and how they ended up. Both courts and insurance companies accept this type of evidence.

Once all the evidence is compiled, our injury lawyers use it to construct a robust case to support our client’s compensation claim.
