Big Rig Crash on Highway 99 in Modesto

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported a big rig crash on southbound Highway 99 in the Modesto area on the morning of Sunday, December 13, 2020. The Modesto truck accident occurred on State Route 99 in the vicinity of Briggsmore Avenue at approximately 11:00 a.m. A 46-year-old Livingston resident was traveling southbound on SR-99 in a 2016 Kenworth truck hauling an empty trailer. For unknown reasons, the truck driver reportedly lost control in the slow lane, traveled across all lanes of travel, and crashed into the concrete center divider of Highway 99. The tractor-trailer reportedly broke the center concrete median and came to a rest partially along the northbound lanes of State Route 99.

CHP Traffic officers reported that fragments of the concrete barrier were strewn across the northbound lanes. A preliminary report by CHP indicated that a 2019 Toyota Camry was struck by a large piece of concrete and ended up beneath it. The big rig crash in Modesto caused the northbound No. 1 and 2 lanes and the southbound No. 1 lane of Highway 99 to be closed for several hours to allow crews to clear the debris and wreckage. Additional information on the 18-wheeler crash was not immediately available.
