Pedestrian Fatality on Interstate 5 Near Cosumnes River Boulevard
An accident along Interstate 5 in Sacramento resulted in a pedestrian fatality on March 23. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a report at around 10:00 at night about a female walking along the southbound side of the interstate close to Cosumnes River Boulevard and the Freeport neighborhood. While the police were in transit to the site, the woman was struck by an older BMW and possibly several other vehicles. All the vehicles involved fled the scene. No information has yet been released on the identity of the deceased, which would not be available until notification of the next of kin by the coroner’s office. Following the collision, the southbound lanes were blocked until after 3:00 a.m., and traffic had to be diverted from Pocket Road to Highway 99. The accident is being investigated by the CHP to determine how it occurred. The CHP is asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call Officer Young at (916) 681-2300.
