Two Killed in Single-Vehicle Accident in Los Banos

Two parties were killed in a single-vehicle accident after their car crashed into the Delta-Mendota Canal just south of the Los Banos area on the morning of Saturday, January 2, 2021. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was notified of the Los Banos car accident in the area of Ortigalita Road and Almond Drive at approximately 9:30 a.m. A 2001 Toyota Camry carrying two occupants, identified as a female and a male, was traveling westbound on Almond Drive when the driver of the vehicle reportedly made a right-hand turn, struck a guardrail, and veered into the canal at an unknown time. Sadly, the occupants of the Toyota succumbed to their injuries at the scene, CHP traffic officers said. The Merced County Coroner’s Office has identified the decedents as Los Banos residents Maela Garcia, 20, and Brayan Castro-Romero, 21.

One of the vehicles was reported to have been propelled approximately 20 feet off the roadway. An ambulance was called to the scene to render aid to those injured. Information, including the conditions of those hurt and the sequence of events leading up to the traffic collision, were not immediately available.

Traffic Collision Caused Power Outage in Los Banos

A traffic collision involving two vehicles and a telephone pole caused a power outage in Los Banos, CA, on the night of May 7, 2020. The car accident occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of Miller Lane and Pacheco Boulevard, according to the Los Banos Police Department (Los Banos PD). An officer was dispatched to the scene to conduct a preliminary investigation of the motor vehicle accident. It was found that a driver of a Dodge Journey reportedly ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into a Hyundai Sonata that was turning onto Miller Lane. The impact of the collision propelled the Dodge into a telephone pole, causing a power outage in the area. Both motorists suffered minor injuries in the incident, Los Banos PD reported. However, it is unknown whether they were hospitalized for their injuries.

Los Banos Man Killed After Car Accident in Hollister

A Los Banos man was killed, and another person was seriously injured after a recent car accident in Hollister, CA. The collision occurred around 3:05 p.m. on State Route 156 just east of San Felipe Road. A 41-year-old man from Los Banos was behind the wheel of a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta headed eastbound on SR-156. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 26-year-old Modesto man crossed over the solid double-yellow lines in his 2006 Toyota Tacoma and collided head-on with the Volkswagen. The Toyota driver suffered catastrophic injuries and was transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas for treatment. He is expected to face DUI charges after he is released from hospitalization, CHP reported. Sadly, the driver of the Volkswagen passed away at the scene. His identity has been withheld due to pending notification of family members.
